Ok, new motor, trans, etc.
New Mallory magnetic dist. (keeping "pink" resistor wire)
Started the car for break in, etc. with a remote starter button.
Car starts and runs fine with remote button.
will not start with key, turns over all day, won't start.
I assume there is some issue with the pink wire, and that is causing my issue, any ideas? I was thinking of trying to start it with a meter on the connection to the ignition, to see if the resistor wire is causing it to be too weak, does this sound like a good test, or could it send me on a wild goose chase?

I'm gonna take a flyer here and blame the remote starter wiring. Check for 12V ignition during ignition "on" and during "start".

By remote starter button I mean a Matco button that clips on and basically jumps the solenoid. It is not a permanent installation, and I did not change the wiring at all.

My goodness, it's Tim McCain. How ya doin buddy?

My guess is you are not getting 12v in the run position, but you didn't indicate if it is trying to start while cranking (like the old ballast resistor failures) or if it is just cranking. I would check voltages and go from there.

I'm good! Finishing up this 66 Convertible to be my daily driver.....
I am going to check voltage while cranking, that should tell me what exactly is going on. It doesn;t even try to start with the key, it just spins over, so that is probably the issue. Now I just have to figure out how to fix it...

My guess would be solenoid.

2 different solenoids, identical results. I double checked all the wiring to the dist, ignition switch, and soleniod just to be sure.
I'm testing voltage this afternoon, that should get me going in the right direction.

Ugh. I found the problem. I had the Powermaster starter wired incorrectly at the solenoid. Once I fixed that, it fired right up. On to the next problem...

I feel your pain. The Ford Performance version I bought a few years ago had horrible instructions in it.
