Strange oil consumption issue

After a few expert opinions, I tore the engine down. Apparently it is not possible to draw that much oil past the valve guides. Glad I did because i found four sets of oil rings that were not in the correct positions and four broken lower compression rings. Hopefully I will be able to re-hone, re-ring and go!

I actually thought about the rings being a problem, but usually you will get a lot of smoke under hard acceloration when the oil gets by the rings. That's what threw me off. Has the engine ever seen boost or nitrous ?

No boost, no nitrous.... Just an explorer motor with a cam.... Gapped the second rings at .020 like sealed power said, no idea why they broke. Ohe well, it was my first rebuild... I'll just gap them larger and be way more careful when putting the pistons back in. Should be back on the road in a couple weeks!
