Hi guys,

I have a 2003 Mustang Gt and I recently brought it in for warrenty work on the clutch.

The clutch was making a sort of chirping noise so they replaced the entire assembly.

Ever since I got the car back there has been a metal on metal vibration coming from the underside of the car.

I got them to check it out but of course I couldn't get it to make the sound while I had the shop tech in my car.

He said it's probably exhaust related and I probably have a lose plate inside of my Cat.

He put it up on the hoist and checked the exhaust but could not find a thing.

Here's my question for all of those with tranny/clutch experience.

Is there somthing in these items that could cause a noise of metal on metal vibration?

The noise happens when I am under load and just for a second. I can make it do it in second and third at 3500rpm.

If it's the exhaust I'll just buy a new one, but I don't want to take it to the shop and pay money for them to tell me it's a cat or somthing.

I would just like to eliminate the clutch/tranny.

And help would be awesome, thanks guys

if it started making the noise after your new install then take it back to them, and make them ride around with you untill they hear the darned noise....they can diagnose it much better than we can

I had a similar problem and was told is was my trak lok differential. Apparently theres a problem with the clutch packs in them. Take it to ford and ask them to check it out. Theres a TSB about it somewhere.

Yea, it was like a chatter of two pieces rattling together, and definetely 2 metal pieces rattling together. I ordered the part from fod and theyre fixing it because the car is still under warranty. But they still havent gotten it in, ill let you know what hppens after i get it installed, but yea i have the same problem and it looks like thats the solution.
