Good Morning Folks,
With all the help I have already recieved from this forum, I feel a bit guilty, like I am taking advantage because I have been of little or no help to you all, but none the less, here I go again.
66 Coupe. I-6 and Automatic. The transmission was sticking - or the engine was still racing and trying to leave when the car was stopped like at a red light or stop sign. Like the throtle linkage was sticking (my son called it a toyota gas pedal after the issues that company has had recently). It was not, we checked it, lubed everythign up and this is not the issue. The motor had a bad bearing so rather than rebuild it - we purchased a new to us motor and trans (from someone who is in the process of moving up to a V-8 swap). Unfortunatly all we have is his word that everything works. We cleaned up the new motor, new gaskets and seals through out, painted it. We are waiting for the new motor mounts now, they should be in today.
The question is should I use our old torque converter or the one he gave us? It seems as though the problem could have been our TC, his has been "rebuilt" he claims, and has been welded back together. The guy is a competent mechanic, his 200 I-6 turns 14 second 1/4 miles. I have seen the video. I have checked into a new TC and it will cost more than we spent on the motor and trans together, we dont really want to spend over $300 on a new TC because my son has plans to swap in a modern v-6 and trans next summer.
So here I am, asking agian for your opinion.
