Hey guys, I am having a strange problem when I try to start my 91 lx. When I try to start it, there is a delay from when I turn the key to when the starter will engage. It dosen't do it all the time, usually when its cold (mornings always), sometimes it will delay so long, I have to keep bumping the key, eventually it will turn over. Also two days ago, when I tried to start it, I couldn't hear the fuel pump run. I popped the trunk and tapped the inertia switch and tried it again and it started. Any ideas?

delays like turn the key to start it........starts cranking over after two to sometimes five seconds. When I put the key into the on/run position, you can hear the pump kick on, when the car decides to start turning over, it starts every time. Two days ago, the pump didn't kick on, I popped the trunk and tapped the inertia switch and tried again and it started right up. I think it might be two seperate problems. Ignition switch and inertia switch?

Could be your starter relay going out. I had this happen on my old 89 years ago. Started doing what you are describing, so I replaced it and it never did it again.

Put a test light on the solenoid trigger and see if it illuminates as soon as the key is turned to crank.

Is there any chance you sub-consciously push the clutch pedal down further as this occurs (meaning the pedal needs to be through the floor to close the interlock circuit)?

yeah, I have moved the clutch pedal around a bit when I am trying to start it, didn't work though. putting the clutch down like normal and just waiting, it would eventually crank over. I have been too busy to check anything out this week, but I will work on it a bit this weekend.
