R.I.P. to those people who lost their lives; but, id put money on the crown vic being an undercover. they do that all the time up here. I've personally seen many close calls where cops come flying up, with no lights on, to catch the racers that just took off. Besides how many "innocent commuters", who see a huge cloud of smoke on the freeway that they cant see through, would:1) continue to plow through it not knowing what(accident,construction,ditch,pedestrians...) is on the other side 2) not even turn their lights on to gain visibility?? Cop or not, drivers are responsible for everything they hit with their car.

if you dont wanna get run over, obviously, stay out of the street! But it would be HORRIBLE if the police already know that it was a cop, and are attempting to deflect blame from themselves for the deaths he caused:

Times we heard he had no lights on(typical UC tactic)? - 1
Times we heard "smoke and debris obscured his vision" - 5+

If smoke was covering the road, I wonder if the spectators would have even seen headlights from behind them. In fact, weren't the spectators watching the racers, which means their backs were facing the white car. I can't imagine crossing a street at any time of day/night and stopping in the middle while facing the wrong way and not paying attention for a couple minutes......that's suicide!

My bet is that the white car had its lights on. If alcohol wasn't an issue with the driver, why in the world would he not have lights on at 3 AM?

First thing I thought of was how this gives true legal "drag racing" a bad name.

I've never been a part of street racing in an organized fashion of any kind. Sure, the stoplight deal to 60 or so, but that's crazy. Cops no longer pay much attention to Mustangs in my area, because the ricers are usually the ones found street racing 90% of the time.

Can't tell you how many times I've heard/seen on the news stories about a street racer that lost control of their car. Can't imagine getting into this and ending up with a damaged/totalled car because of the driver beside me.

Might have to get a Dart block but don't want to and if I do, then 363 instead of 331. Thoughts on what I've already bought so far.......
