Anyone else wonder why talk of street racing is not prohibited on this forum, yet bigotry and racism are supported on a daily basis? Such as words like rice, redneck, etc....

Is it just because street racing is illegal in most places, and bigotry is just a moral question?

Oh well, I am just a participant in a world ruled by others....

Is NOT prohibited?

Calling a car rice or calling someone a redneck isn't illegal and won't get innocent people killed. Just my .02.

btw, there was a crackdown on "rice" threads awhile back and I bet if someone called someone else teh "N"word, they'd get hit pretty hard with teh bant stick.

Also, Redneckenese isn't a race so, it's not a racial comment.

pretty much. i'm pretty sure it's the whole illegal aspect of it. and the stupidity behind 98% of all street racing stories doesn't help either. i'm sure the mods would be a bit more passive if the story was something like "my buddy and i went out to a wide open, country road with no one around and ran em" instead of "i raced against this d00d in a vtack preLUDE down main street from light to light! lots of spectators to witness my kill HOORAH!!!"

im with the mods not alowing SR threads, its dumb, people die, and it should be frowned upon.

I dont feel there is much bigotry here at all, and if there was a serious threat or a bad comment made twoard someone the mods do great job of taking care of business.

There are too many people (young adults 16-18) that come here to see what is acceptable as far as mods, and actions. and If we condone street racing and idolize it you might not believe this but people could not, and its usually not the racers its the innocent by stander

The funniest part is, you really think you are making a good "point". But not once while you were processing it in your head did you think that the activity you are trying to defend is both illegal and deadly. Last time I checked nobody ever died, killed or horribly maimed a family because someone used the term "redneck".

well, i personally think that street racing is prety stupid. i mean, at 3 am in a empty road, comparing your car with someone elses isnt that bad, but actual street racing, with trafic and other people at risk is as stupid as robbing a police station. easy fun way is to :Track:. nothing more to it. pay the racers fee and go in and race. nothing to it. i rather pay the money than possibly get my car taken away. but as far a rednecks and other terms, those are words. nothing more. street racing is an action that is very risky.

Not defending the OP at all, but I think his point was that racism and bigotry is allowed and street racing is not. Making them both equitable offenses...

Yeah, right. You know around here it happens the other way around.

I'm sure every person who has ever frowned upon street racing is an angel and has never done anything wrong or illegal in their lives. Hypocrites. There was never a problem with street racing until parents started buying their popped-collar kids 13 second Subarus so they could weave in and out of cars and kill innocent people. Take it out on the ass hole parents and their douchebag kids, not the people minding their own business on a completely empty road in the middle of the night just having a little fun.

Right....and it was a stupid point to be made.

Street racing: Potentially deadly and illegal.

Bigotry: Ignorant hatred towards a person or group of people.

Sorry, don't see the connection.

Now had he compared street racing to say, drugs then that would be a different.

Street racing threads aren't allowed because we want no part of either promoting, or justifying illegal activity. Street racing kills, and allowing the discussion means that we turn our backs on the automotive community, as well as the general population, instead of trying to set an example of the responsible and correct way to go about racing, from an enthusiast standpoint. On the street, you risk the life of not only yourself, but innocent bystanders. On the track, there's emergency medical personnel immediately available and it's a controlled environment with safety rules that are constantly reviewed and improved upon.

Now for your next issue, saying rice, or redneck are neither bigotry, nor are they racism. Granted some issues can push the bounds of stupidity, they're definitely not bigoted, or racist.

The definitions of bigot and racism are below (from Miriam-Webster's Dictionary), so we can make sure we're on the same page here, when it comes to the meaning behind those words:

__________________

bigot

Main Entry: big·ot
Pronunciation: \ˈbi-gət\
Function: noun
Etymology: French, hypocrite, bigot
Date: 1660
: a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance
— big·ot·ed \-gə-təd\ adjective
— big·ot·ed·ly adverb

__________________

racism

Main Entry: rac·ism
Pronunciation: \ˈrā-ˌsi-zəm also -ˌshi-\
Function: noun
Date: 1933
1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
2 : racial prejudice or discrimination
— rac·ist \-sist also -shist\ noun or adjective

__________________

So using either word you gave as an example, I'm a bit confused as to which definition rice would fall under? Rice isn't bigoted, by this definition. Doesn't appear to be racist, either. Rice comes in all races. It's a matter of personal preference, to look ridiculous enough to become classified as a "ricer," but it knows no color. It's their perogative, and not something they were born into, like they would be with their race. It might be prejudice toward the import fans, but you need to follow the definition in order for it to be either bigotry, or racism, since those single out an ethnic group.

Now using the definition of either word, what would redneck fall under? Definitely not bigot. It's another word that knows no gender, race, or color. Definitely not racism, because again, it doesn't discriminate against race. I fail to see the argument there, either.

Now had you used the word prejudice, it may have met the definition and criteria for your argument, but you didn't.

__________________

prejudice

Main Entry: 1prej·u·dice
Pronunciation: \ˈpre-jə-dəs\
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Anglo-French, from Latin praejudicium previous judgment, damage, from prae- + judicium judgment — more at judicial
Date: 13th century
1: injury or damage resulting from some judgment or action of another in disregard of one's rights; especially : detriment to one's legal rights or claims
2 a (1): preconceived judgment or opinion (2): an adverse opinion or leaning formed without just grounds or before sufficient knowledge b: an instance of such judgment or opinion c: an irrational attitude of hostility directed against an individual, a group, a race, or their supposed characteristics

__________________

Rice could definitely fall under that definition, as written above. Redneck, you'll still need to work on, however.
