OK so how do i test to see if my syncros in my trans are no good or if my clutch cable is not releasing all the way? recently my car has been NOTCHEY going through the gears ( its a new trans) sometimes when im at a light and i go to put it in 1st it wont go at all, but i can put it in second the go back to first and it will go in. IN the morning the fist few shifts go in like butter, but after that they get notchy? also when I'm rolling at about 20+ mph is really hard to put it in 1st gear.....recently my clutch pedal free play has increased all the sudden,

HOW do i determine which one it is, bad cable, or bad trans??? thanks guys!!

If you have a firewall adjuster....you can tighten up the cable to see if that helps things. And or if you have a adj. cable you can tighten it down at the fork. Or if you have a stock quadrant you can try pulling up on the clutch pedal as that adjusts the stock quadrant for cable strech or other play.

GS has you covered. You noted excess freeplay of late, so that's where I'd start too. Dial that out and see how it is. Your POE (Point of Engagement) right now is probably on the floorboard. Not good.

If you can achieve zero-lash cable-freeplay and it still shifts like a turd, then move to the clutch or consider a trans issue (the lattermost is not likely). With near zero-lash or no lash, the POE should be about halfway down the pedal-travel or higher. In other words, no putting your foot through the floorboard to disengage the clutch.

Also, watch those shifts into 1st from a roll. I try not to do it period, let alone at anything over about 2 mph.

Good luck.
