I don't know a lot about strokers, but do know that it is a way to increase displacement and volume within the bock. Now what exactly is involved in turning a 302 small block into a stroker and is it recommended? What type of cost should you expect for turning a 302 into a stroker? I understand that their may be some machining that needs to be done by a shop, but how much can be done by a home mechanic with a little bit of experience can do? I appologize for the stupid question and thanks for any responses in advance. Also Im guessing that you by stroking a 302 you can increase it to about a 351...right? How much HP gain should I expect?

edit: I am tight on budget and am open to ways to keep it inexpensive, ie getting parts from the junky...

Thanks again.

Honestly? It sounds as if your first step should be to get a magazine susbscription. Basically a stroker involves installing a crank with a longer stroke. Longer stroke = more piston travel = more mechanical advantage in turning the crank = more displacement. You can get a block for about $300, a rotating assy for about $1900.... all of the other things required to efficiently support it and machine it.... Much much more $$. Prepping a block for a stroker is not something you can do at home unless you're an auto machinist and have a complete machine shop out in your shed. If that were the case then I imagine you would already know what a stroker is. If you're looking for a replacement for a tired motor on a budget then I'd recommend an FMS crate engine.
