Strut tower repair

Maybe they do, but people are too embarrassed to admit what happened?

But how does something like this not collapse? That rear nut plate looks like it's the only thing holding the K-member in place. But what takes the load when this car hits a big bump at 70MPH?

But another thing that baffles me is when people cut off the front end of their car and tube frame it. You basically cut it off at the front of the tower so you lose part of that structure that takes the load. I just assume Ford overdesigned these towers.....massively.
I’d say chromoly done right is way stronger then the stock stamped support that was cut off . Makes working on a car that’s a race car so much easier

I think the reason they don't fold up or buckle under load is that the top rail is also somewhat structural. So you essentially have 2 parallel "frame" rails running from the firewall to the radiator support. My old 84 was rotted pretty bad on the driver side - not as bad as some here, but bad nonetheless - and I went through the process of replacing it. The K member bolts were as mentioned, rotted to the point of almost being non-existent. I never got to the passenger side frame rail, it wasn't as bad as the driver side, but wanted to. Then life got in the way and it was sold. After having that experience I looked over my 87 THOROUGHLY in those locations so as to not make the same mistake when I bought it.

Too bad you don't have the space to work, it's not really all that bad to replace, just time consuming.

Are there any kits that you can buy to reinforce these ? Mine is an 89 . Its not even close to as bad as the pics I've seen on here . the base of the strut tower is pretty much gone . should i just use metal and patch it or is there something that's made for this

Do it right or get rid of the car... period. reinforcing those area's is fine if they aren't rusted and will be road raced but if there's any rust cut it out and put in new metal.
