Struts and Shocks instal! How hard???? HELP!!

Is this easy to do by yourself??? DO you have to take your springs off for this??? Any site that can help... I saw on mustangworld.com when they put springs on a car they detached them... HELP ME OUT!!!

I know on the fronts you have to pull the springs out when doing the struts. I'm pretty sure you have to for the rears also.

dude calm down.. I did mine 3 weeks ago..

lots of pics in my site in the sig btw..

anyhow, you have to remove both front and rear springs.. the struts/shocks are kind of tricky.. you have to use a flat head screw driver to hold the bolt and use an open ended wrench to get the bolt out.. it's a piece of cake after that.. expcept that I had to trim to bushing on the passenger rear shock to get the damn bolt down.. the bushings were too big..

what kind of shocks/struts are you getting? ask me any questions. I'll help as much as I could..

heh.. that's what I have.. tokicos... very easy to install dude.. just drop the spring and the strut/shocks will be loose.. then just get the old one off and put the new ones one.. dont' over tighten them though...

EDIT: Now I see Cotton removed his springs, too

After I removed my shocks/struts at about 1k miles on the odometer, we installed the OEM units on my friend's V6 that needed some replacements. We didn't remove any of the springs on his car. For the rear, we had the car on 4 jackstands and supported the axle with a jack. Removed the shocks and replaced them with no spring removal. On the front, we still had the car on the jackstands. We removed the struts and used a jack under the A-arm to bring it up to the strut. Again, no spring removal.

well either way you're going to have to lower the arms a bit to get the struts/shocks out... it's true that you don't really need to remove the springs.. but if you are changing springs or control arms then you obviously need to remove the springs..

It's also safer to just lower the arms until all the tension of the springs was released... You don't have to remove it.. just release the tension.. that's what I would do..

i didnt remove the front springs when i did mine, i didnt have a rear end on the car when i put on the rears though. i also used air tools made the job alot easier.

easy peasy
you don't have to take out springs but you can if you want since they aren't hard to get out once you detach shock/strut

going to do mine (springs/shocks/struts) in a week or so, once I get springs ordered. shocks/struts on the way.

Not much to it and no you don't need to remove the springs in the front or rear. Just ensure the rear axle is supported when you remove the shocks and that the front A arm is supported with a jack which you can lower slowly after unfastening the strut. Do not just let them suddenly drop or there is a possibility of the spring flying out.
