ok, my 86gt, new alternator, fairly new batt, 1075cc amps, newer starter. here's how it goes down: I start it up, charging 14.5 volts all day long, get it up to running temps, shut it off, no start or really hard start, like it has no juice at all, and the batt is about at 12.5v, this seems really low for this batt. I have good grounds with a hatch mount batt, 2gauge cable going to it. do you guys think the battery is shot? it charges well, but it wont turn it over after I try to crank it up, I swapped the batt out of my 7up machine and still no go, so this makes me want to point my finger at the batt or the starter.

any help here hellerz?
 
It has the feeling of heat soak. If you have a spare battery (jumper) connected to yours, does it then start?

I've not had luck doing resistance testing on big cables. Instead, I prefer to do a voltage drop test under load. Just in case other methods aren't conclusive for you.

Measuring the resistance of large cables and connections using an ohmmeter is not a very accurate process. The resistance of the test leads is usually larger that the resistance of the item you are measuring. That adds a great deal of error to the results.

For that reason, using the voltage drop method is the preferred technique.

Voltage drop testing of wiring and grounds.

Use a Digital Volt Meter (DVM) to measure the voltage drop across a connection or wire. Adding length to the test leads may be required, and does not affect the accuracy of the test. Use 18-20 gauge wire for the test leads if you have to lengthen them.
1.) Most grounds use the negative battery post as their starting point.
2.) The voltage will be small if the connection or ground is good: less voltage drop = better connection.
3.) Be sure that the power to the circuit is on, and the circuit is being used in its normal manner. For instance, if it is a light circuit, the lights on that circuit should be powered on.
4.) To measure grounds, place one DVM lead on the battery negative post and the other on the wire or connector that goes to ground. Place the other DVM lead on the wire or connection you want to test.
5.) Read the voltage drop: Light duty circuits (1-5 amps) should show .1-.25 volts. Medium duty circuits (6-25 amps) should show .25-.5 volts. Heavy duty circuits (26 amps up) should show .5-.75 volt drop. A voltage drop lower that spec is always acceptable.

Ive hooked up an extra batt, to it and nothing happens, the same thing!! when I try to start it when hot the voltage goes from about 12.8-9 13.00 to about 9.0v, when its cold its about 10.2-3v and turns over quick, but when its hot its like its stuck, im gonna go have it replaced tomorrow, and then tell em to put a mini torque on there to try to keep it farther from heat if that makes sense. what years did the fox have a mini start on them?
