Ok, I ordered a Edge Converter and it does not have studs on the converter like a OEM converter has. It came with Allen bolts that have to be tightened into the converter. My question is...would the easiest route be bolting on the flex plate (flywheel) to the TC before re-installing the tranny or keep the flywheel bolted to the block and try to line up the holes from the flywheel to the TC after installation of the AOD.

Whats the easiest method?

TIA!

You almost have to install it in the tranny 1st to ensure proper engagement and to prevent damage to the pump seal.

Then once the tranny is installed, rotate the flex plate either with the correct tool or have a friend rotate it from the crank until the bolts are lined up and tighten it then.

Put the block plate on the alignment dowels first, then bolt the flexplate to the crankshaft. make sure there isn't a pilot bearing remaining in the crankshaft from a stick shift trans.

Put a couple of quarts of tranny fluid in the converter then carefully slide it on the splines of the transmission. While rotating it push it on the splines until it seats all the way. You'll feel it go all the way on with a "clunk". If it's not all the way on, the trans will not fit snug up against the block.

When the trans is bolted up tight, match up the flex plate/torque converter bolt holes and install the bolts. You'll find that the holes are not in a perfectly square pattern. It'll help align them if you bolt the flex plate to the converter before installing and mark them with chalk or a quick shot of spray paint so you can align them easier after installation.
