Stupid Question About Tires

Yeah, dumb I know. But what are those little spindle things for sticking out of some models of brand new tires? They remind me of the tires on my dirtbike when i was like 8 years old...

I assume they have no practical use, except maybe to determine if a tire has ever been mounted/worn at all?

They are just part of the molding process. They allow air to escape and ensure a full pour. I use to work in a ductile iron plant and it is the same concept. Tires are made it layers so they probably double as something for the machine to hold onto when putting layers together also. :D
