Hello. If you own a convertible, or have seen their trunks, you know what I am talking about! Does anyone have subs in their vert? Got any pics? Can it feasibly be done?
I would really like to kick up my sound system and get some bass out of it. I have (what i think) a really good system now. I put in an Alpine CDA-7894 (I cant believe I remember the code, they are discontinued and i got it years ago). This head unit puts out 60x4 watts and i have really enjoyed it. I've never seen a head unit that put out so much power. It is powering 2 sets of Infiniti Kappa 6.5's. These are 'mid-base' 6.5's with tweeters. I mounted the front set 6.5 in the door and the tweeter in the dash to replace the 3 inch ones there. The other pair is in the convertible quarter panel, and on the 89 the speaker is at the floorboard, unlike the 90+ where its in the middle. So i dealt the cards Ford gave me, and put it there, and cut a tiny hole in my quarter panels for the tweeter. Plus, they rotate freely, so you can point the tweeters around. Its rockin . I'm sure I have tons of pics of all that!
So, I went with this super head unit and to me expensive to get the additional power because of my limited space! It does pretty well for itself, and i needed it so I could actually hear the radio when driving down the interstate top down at 80, fat chance with stock speakers. But when I really want a good tune, its just too much base for on my speakers.
So, anyone hip on putting subs in the vert's? Bottom line, opinions? Will I be able to hear it well, top up or down? any other ideas? I dont mind spending some money on it, but im just not sure if it will do much. And not sure how much of an issue it is, but lord I would probably never be able to access my spare tire if I had subs? I'm sorry but the vert trunk space is http://forums.stangnet.com/images/smilies/animatedCrap.gif
crapola .
Another question, for anyone with subs I guess, who much work would it be to take them in and out? Like if I needed to take the mustang on a trip and needed the meager trunk space. Or if I DID need to get to the spare tire. Shouldnt the box be bolted down? Thanks!

I have a notch so I have about the same trunk as you I would guess, except I have a full-size spare. About your only options are a custom box built for your trunk, or do like I did. I have a box setup with 2 8" JL's. The box actually came with a set of cheapo subs and has tweeters built into it. I swapped out the cheapo bus and put the JL's in there. The only way the box would fit was to slide it in sideways(the box is over the passenger side rear tire with the speakers facing to the inside of the trunk). Picture if you were standing at the back of the car looking into the trunk, the speaker box is on the right side of the trunk, and the speakers are facing toward the passenger side of the car. That's the only way I could fit the box in there with the full-size spare. If I took the spare out I could face the speakers anyway I wanted, but I don't like being without a spare so that was my only option. The only other option would be to have a custom box made for the trunk. So there is a way. And you'll be able to hear the bass with the top down going down the freeway. It all depends on what size speakers you have and how you have it all set up. If you don't mind spending some money you can definately set your system up so you can hear it. I didn't want to spend a lot of money or eat up my trunk space with a custom box so I went the route I went. But yes, it is possible!

I have used/sold a few of those NOS bottle looking Bazooka's(8") and they do put out a lot of bass for what they are.I just put a 10" tube in my g/f scion and its enough to shake the mirrors, not bad for under 200 bucks and it can be removed in less then a minute.
