Subs with box question

This guy at my work is willing to sell me his entire system for $400. Now there is no way as is this box (with 2, 12's)will fit into my trunk. My question is, does anyone have a way to get this sub - box into the trunk or maybe somewhere else to instal the speakers?

This other guy at my job has a rear seat delete kit, and has the 2 subs installed into the rear seat where people normally would have sat. My only prob with this is his doesnt sound too good, i think because the delete kit no longer muffles exhaust etc.

Any ideas on how i could get 2 12's and a box inside (preferably the trunk) would be the ****.

check ebay theres a seller that makes custom boxes that form fit to each side of the trunk leaving you amp space in the middle , i was going this route until i put my jl 10w3 prowedge box in there...

You will have to remove the speaker box from the factory 460. Once thats done you can fit 2 12's in there. That's what I did

I've got 2 12's in my stock trunk. They are in a trapezoidal box, and it takes some finessing to get them in, but they go. I currently have the most trunk space with them facing rearwards. Hopefully one day, when I replace the stock 460 speakers, I can take the deck that holds the amps in the truck out, spin the speakers around to facing forwards, and slide the box all the way up to the rear of the rear seat. One day.....

Only box I have been able to get in without doing anything crazy is 2 10's which is what I am rocking now. Custom boxes and truck style boxes will go in and possibly some other boxes but I have not seen any around my parts. Whatever you do point them towards the rear, that is why your buddies speakers didn't sound good at all. When you point them backwards it just sounds better, test that for yourself but it sounds much better.

it really depends on what you are running for a box as to where you want it. what i mean by this is sealed or ported. air space will be a huge factor when it comes to this. your frinds with the rear seat delete may have a sealed box and would sound better if they were facing the trunk to cut down the air space that could make them hit harder. made a big difference in mine. now if you did want to face them forward you would probably want a ported box then

Make your own box. The subs should have an ideal box volume, and once you find that out do some math and make one yourself with MDF. I wouldn't do a ported box, yeah they can be louder but the sound isn't as clean. What kind of subs are they? Do you have an amp yet? If so, what brand?

the subs are 2 12's (mtx) in a sealed box, JBL amp (not 100% on the watts, i Dudes going to sell me his whole setup... 2 12's (mtx) +sealed box, JBL amp, tsunami capacitor, and i think an alpine head unit. + i believe he used 14 gauge wire that he'd give me also. There are a couple things i'm going to try to get this box to fit, but custom is looking better every day.

the guy whom had the subs installed into his rear seat delete, he has the subs in the bottom part facing upward. When he turned it on to let me listen it just sounded like crap, all kinds of rattling, then there was the exhaust, it just sounded bad imo. I just dont think he did it right

Good point about sealed vs ported. What type of music does the OP listen to? That is a big factor as to sealed vs ported and even size of the speakers.

What type of MTX speakers? Post a pic if you have one, I have MTX 5500's and they don't overpower you but are enough for some people.. I still want more though so I will be stepping up to 2 JL W6v2's eventually but I would rather put money into the car elsewhere first. JBL amp is a blah for me and I doubt the wattage they claim the amp is it can really put out. 14 gauge wire is too small for this install and I would put at the least some decent 12 gauge wire but 8 gauge would be better. I have 4 gauge on both amps just to be sure there is no problems at all.

a good set of components powered off a good amp and a single 10" would sound a lot better than 2 12"s and stock speakers

Take the upper part of the rear seat out(frame) and you can slide them in that way.

Much agreed, and this is coming from someone with the stock system/12's setup. I bought my setup because I got a box, 2 12's, and matching amp (all of fairly decent quality actually) for $100 from Circuit City back in the day (RIP). It sounds decent, but there is a ton of room for improvement; lots of bass, but it doesn't "hit" all that hard; highs and mids ok, but nothing compared to aftermarket speakers.

I'm planning on going RF components in the front with RF 3 ways in the rear, all powered by a RF amp, and then either 1 or 2 10" subs (either Alpine or RF) powered by a matching amp. Couple of my brothers have nice 10" subs in their trucks, and I'll take one of their 10"s over my 2 12s any day of the week.

As someone told me long ago: a small subwoofer + a small box + a nice amp = a big surprise.

Driving i'd be listening to rock techno or hip hop, i need something uptempo for driving or forget about it

I'll try to get a pic at work tomorrow, He has a new charger and it sounded sick when he cranked it. Sounded real good through the ranges, i would prolly never have em as loud as they can go. But they def thumped.

Might have to take a look at that. I measured and its only like, 11 inches top to bottom in that space, surprizingly the seat backs dont really block the whole at all, so taking them out wouldnt help.

Trust me. It's easier just to go all the way and rip out the whole 460 system. In the end it will be better and less of a head ache.

When you take the frame out it gives you a little more room.
