I know many of you may have read a thread about this similar topic just a few minutes ago, but i could use the input myself. I have found a mustang i can afford, i have proven it to my parents that i can. I will pay for all the insurance, gas, repairs(if needed), and modifications. I am very grateful to be the owner of a 92 Honda Accord(2dr). I know its a freakin ricer but it was free for me, and its a great first car. I have driven it for a year and am ready to buy the Mustang i have always dreamed of. I am 17 years old and will be a senior in high school this year. I will be out on my own in less than a year, and want to make my senior year memorable with this car. I also am i good kid, decent grades, no wrecks, one ticket(trying to get sister to game on time), take extremely good care of my car. i KNOW i am ready for this, its time to take the next step. my friend(huskerpower02) owns a 95 5.0 and he loves it. Everytime i see it i get so jealous i just dream of the day that it could be me with that car. I would love to hear some comments on how to help me convince them that i can handle this. I know there was a thred just recently about this same topic, but i need some help. Thanks

if they say you can speed or go to fast mention that you could do that in yoru current car too if you wanted but your not going to becuase your paying for this car and you going to take much better care of it because of that. Also don't mention modding it at all to your parents. They think v8 young kid and going faster than before, bad combo. If they get mad and say you have better things you could spend your money on say something like oh yeah i could spending my money away on drugs. That always got mine when I was ordering mods

Too funny. I used that line way too much. But it was true, so I didn't feel bad.

First question. Do you pay for all of your car stuff now? Meaning insurance/gas/maintenance/etc. If you do, then that is a good start.

When it comes to your father, you need to appeal to logic. You need him to want you to have the car. So, you need to do some sort of trade. Meaning, you need to start cutting the grass, doing more chores, etc.

As for your mom, you need to appeal to safety, self control & compassion. Does your Honda have air bags? If it doesn't, then the argument "It has dual air bags" will be a great start. Secondly, you need to point out that the car has a "rev limiter and speed govenor". This alone will MAKE you be safe when driving the car. Third, you need to show passion about the car. Buy TONS of posters & put them all over your walls, make sure she sees you on stangnet and other mustang sites. Even aftermarket parts sites will be useful (looking into the future).

Also, you need to be an ANGEL while you are trying to sucker them into the deal. Don't nag them too much, because that will just irritate them. Sometimes being subtle will be 10x more effective than being blunt.

Generally speaking, the dad will be cool with it, but has to agree with the mom. So you need to get your mom on your side first, then the rest is cake.

That said, some families are different. My parents didn't give a rats ass what I did, as long as they weren't paying for it.

Good luck.

Convincing them to let you get the car is easy. Wait till you start modding it. My little bro is like the town star hockey player and he's never paid for any of his equipment, my parents pick it all up for him. But even if I buy something small like a cold air kit I catch the riot act. For some reason parents don't understand that wrenchin on your car is just as much a hobby as throwing a ball or playing an instrument. The damn kid can ask for and get 500 dollar skates but they yell at me for spending MY OWN money. Get ready to deal with that.

More On Topic... I let my pops borrow my car on sundays when he takes my mom for ice cream and stuff like that, he loves to drive it and the exhaust note. Make it seem like something everyone can enjoy.
