Suggestions on a clutch kit...

Hey there guys, I need some advise. I just got the green light to get a clutch kit. Now, to give you guys some background on my clutch woes. This is the reason I'm replacing the clutch:

1. The throwout bearing squeals like crazy at all times.
2. Clutch chatter like crazy. Previous owner damages.
3. Bell Housing is cracked. Previous owner damages.

Those are basically the main points. Now, I'm thinking on getting this clutch kit.

94-95 Mustang 5.0L Master Clutch Replacement Kit at LRS - Same Day Shipping!

I imagine this clutch kit would cover the basics. Since I know the rear main seal has oil slight oil leak. It would save me on time getting the flywheel resurfaced. I'm sure the bearing retainer is the original (assuming). I would have all the bolts necessary to mount everything together.

Now, my main concern is the quality of this clutch. Is this a good clutch? I was really wanting a King Cobra clutch, and somewhere I saw this clutch is very comparable to the King Cobra clutch. Anyhow, any suggestions would be great.

Thanks in advance.

That's an expensive option. It is actually better to resurface your factory flywheel, because the orginal is generally better quality than most stock replacement aftermarkets and it is balanced with your engine. Once you get a new flywheel, you can't get it rebalanced with the engine, unless you take the engine completely apart again. The King Cobra clutch is a great clutch for the street. I also recommend a SPEC 1 or 2 for that price range. There are a lot of really good entry level clutches for the Mustang. Just make sure you stay away from the Chinese stuff.

Well, the RAM HDX is a great clutch, but it may or may not be right for your application. Please tell me about the modifications to your car & include any future mods you're planning on. Also, do you drag race often on a full slick?

I plan on eventually running a decent h/c/I setup. 315s in the rear but no drag racing. I just want a good decent street clutch.

Well, the RAM HDX Clutch will do you just fine! It'll hold up to 400 RWHP so long as you don't run it on slicks.

The Flywheel, Rear Main Seal, Pilot Bearing, hardware, & Input Bearing Retainer included in the kit you looked at are all sourced from FRPP & are OE Ford parts. The Clutch itself includes the Throw Out Bearing & an alignment tool.

All in stock & shipping is only $14.99.

If you have any further questions, please let me know!

Thanks guys! This helps me a whole lot! I appreciate the reply! I'll be ordering it in the beginning of next month! Thanks again guys!

Bumping an old thread... I've got the mods listed in my sig, and will be replacing my tranny with a freshly rebuilt T-5z in the next couple weeks. I'm probably pushing about 300 hp at the flywheel...? Anyway, I've got a SPEC Stage 2 in there now (had been run with stock T-5 previously), but it had a really heavy clutch effort from what I remember. Any recommendations on a clutch kit for my T-5z? I don't plan to increase the hp/torque anytime soon...

I'd get a King Cobra. The clutch effort is probably from an old cable to be honest with you. If you have a 300hp, you might be ok with a Centerforce Dual Friction, but you'd be pushing it. That definately has a soft pedal effort. The Stage 2 SPEC, should not be that hard a pedal effort, and it is definately much better quality than the other 2 I mentioned. I would try chainging your cable, and see if that makes the pedal effort any better.

ok well my buddy justain has this same clutch kit he is pushin 290 295hp and he loves the clutch I have driven his car and that clutch holds up to everything he puts it through. I have a king cobra in my car and either way they are both good good clutches.
hope everything goes well.
