can it be done? or what kinds of upgrades to the engine do i need? i was torn between HCI or V3, and honestly im happy with the stock 5.0 as it is, and i think a supercharger would be a cool add on with a little boost in there, its a daily driver in the summer and i park it in the winter. my budget really doesnt call for both though i do plan on having both at some point, i just think it would be cool to have the supercharger first and ive read about a lot of people running it on a stock 5.0.

but my buddy said something about having to use dished pistons... i dont think you would need that for 6psi? lol couldnt i just bolt this kit on and be good? (i am sure id need fuel upgrades)

Stock 5.0 is 9.0:1 compression, you will be fine with that boost level and a little more. Yes, you will have to upgrade fuel system and mass air to match. A tune would be a good idea too.

what kinds of fuel upgrades would i need? i have a 155lph pump with an adjustable FPR. the kit comes with a FMU and i have mass air from the factory (89 was the first year for MAF from the factory) only thing i think i'd need is bigger injectors. i have 19lb so i should run at least 24?

the kit should be fine since it was designed for a stock application, the only reason i can think of that would require upgrading the injectors/maf is to support other modifications/increased boost levels. the FMU is kind of a bandaid which makes your 19lbs injectors perform like larger injectors by increasing fuel rail pressure. It is better to go with 42lbs injectors with a tune and ditch the fmu all together, but I would install a 255lph pump run the FMU and call it good. I ran 9 psi for years with the FMU on 19s with a 255 lph.

Also ran 8 lbs with the fmu but also 30 lb injectors. Run 13 lbs now on a stock 5.0 and have for years with zero issues. 5-6 will be good for you... For about 3 months

Fwiw my bolt on 5.0 with 5-6 lbs made 298 rwhp and 330 rwtq on a dynojet with no tune. Just so you know your ballpark.

Just don't get greedy with the boost. If 6psi suits your needs stick with it. I got greedy with my S-Trim started with 8, then 10, then I went with a 12psi pulley and it spiked to 14.5psi. Blew the heads off the block. Id suggest a good fuel and ignition system and get tuned right away before you start beating on it.

The fmu setup works perfectly fine, for some reason people here don't like it but i assure you, it's unjustified.

I've always found the same. There is this accepted stigma about them. My tuner used to give me hell about it, but when asked for bad experiences he didn't have any

A friend of mine runs that kit on a stock engine with nothing more than a Cobra intake. It makes just under 300 rwhp and has had no issues over the last three years since they put it on.

20 years ago when superchargers hit the scene, there were no neighborhood dynos or so-called tuners. Your tuner gave you a hard time about the FMU, because FMU done right, you don't need him.

I recently was in contact with the inventor of the FMU. He's still in business but under a different company name. I sent him my FMU for test & evaluation. There are so many copies of his original, no one knows what they have. If it doesn't work out, will buy his latest & greatest FMU for about $200.

Given all the research I've done on FMU's lately, stay away from all the "big names", they have no idea what they are or how they function. Every single one of them is a ripoff of the orginal which was never patented or the patent has since run out.

The reasons behind it are simple.
A. Tuners are scared of the unknown, most of these guys were NOT around before 96, so they have little experience with foxes or even pushrod engines, their answer to everything "tune it".
B. They make money on tunes, if everyone knew that the fmu worked properly you would only make money on the dyno runs. They can't really make too much changing the timing and fuel pressure with a timing light and allen key.

dang sounds like a lot of good responses from you guys, and i know what you mean about being greedy with boost. always getting that 4ft itch hahah, once you get some you always want more. my thoughts are is that im happy with the way my car runs now, plenty of power for me, cruising and daily driving and just looking damn sexy. i think a little boost would be plenty for me!

i plan on tearing everything down once i graduate auto tech/ high performance college, prospecting a job at Rousch, ill be tearing it down to chassis and doing a full scale restoration, 9 inch rear end, 5 lug, cobra brakes, wire tuck, all the fun stuff
