You would need to fab up a sheet metal drop in piece and then weld it in place. After that, you would need to recover with a new headliner so it won't look strange.

It could be done, but not for cheap. My guess 2K

2K sounds really expensive.
If you can weld it save you some.

but for the work, i don't think it would b 2k.
whats a headliner from a junk yard...$50 u remove
then the metal and have it welded, ???$300 tops
then you do some body work, and filling, sanding, and prep it to b painted
then whatever paint would be, around here, that could be painted, with them doing all the work plus welding for like $600, then you find a headliner. and thats a decent bodyshop by me

is it the way it looks from the out side or inside the car that bugs you??
mine is limo tinted, i forget it's even there when i'm in the car, as for the outside the tinted part actually accents the rest of the car, then again i'm one of them weird people that think all cars look better tinted.....

it drives me frickin insane..

I can have somebod weld it and do body work..

all I'd need is for somebody to do paint and headliner..

Well to install a sunroof is usually over $1,000 dollars.

I love the look of the sunroof and wouldn't have it any other way. Makes it look newer age. It was a fine selling point on the car when I bought it. Reef Blue, tinted windows with a sunroof.

My friend had his sunroof removed from his car(not a mustang) and it cost him quite a bit, even without paint. I don't remember exactly, but it was way more than $400. The job was very well done though, you could never tell the car had a sunroof.

Not as odd as you think, down here off-roading is big and a lot of the guys that have Cherokees or anything else with a sunroof get them removed.

Hardest part would be the welding. To much heat would warp the roof of the car. The rest is typical body work.

I would say no way. Don't do it. You would have to match the curve of the roof. If you don't like it so much why did you buy one with a sunroof. I would love to have a sunroof in my car, I just couldn't find one.

sunroofs arent my thing..

I was under the impression the roof of the car was relatively flat..

just weld in a 18 gauge thing of sheet metal.. bondo... paint..

I dont see how hard this could be to make this a 1k job..

I can have a buddy weld and do the body work..

so I'd save a ton there..

could there be stress cracks or anything of the sort after a period of time?

OK I have experience in this. I am changing the sunroof skin on my pace car to replace a rusted one.

Basically the right way and the only way to do this is to take off the roof skin and replace it with a solid skin. The hatch and the windows have to come out and then you will need to drill out lots of spot welds. It is very labor intensive. Then you need to find another skin to put back on.

Another option is to clip a roof onto it. Basically you cut the pillars on your roof to remove it completely, take a donor roof clip and basically butt-weld it to the pillars. There is alot of precise measuring involved to do this. If you do all the taking apart and putting back together work this should cost $500-$800 for that alone not including paint. There is a guy local to me that does a really nice job with this. I had him weld a T-top clip onto an original sunroof car.

Basically if you are not willing to have any of these two options done then you should just leave it alone because anything else is going to turn out to be a cobbed mess.

No just welding sheet metal over the hole will not work if you want it to look halfway decent. The roof is not flat and there would be lots of bondo work involved which you dont want on the roof because it would crack over time.

Its your car and you can try it if you want but I am pretty anal about the cars I own and work on and if I cant fix something the right way then I just dont do it.

Is this a factory sunroof or some crappy aftermarket one?

This is not one of those jobs for a "buddy", it's a job for a paid expert. In fact it's something i would never consider. You can land up screwing up your whole roof.

But, i do have a better solution for you.
Go to one of those places that install sunroofs in cars, and have them put a bigger one in, something nice and new, possiby something with power.
