Im looking to get at tune done on my Bullitt, and the local speed shops near me are JDM, Laraccas, and Crazy Horse. Ive already talked to laraccas, and they qouted me $600 for a chip and tune. I then talked to JDM, and they suggested the Super Chip Tuner, and a custom tune file burned onto. They quoted the cost at $429 for the tuner, and $300 for the dyno runs and burn/programing. Their other option is a single program chip for $300, and again $300 for the burn.
JDMs point it seemed was that the SCT is a good idea, as it can be unplugged and removed if the car needs to be serviced, or if something goes wrong with the engine, and it needs to be worked on at ford. Meanwhile thats not the case with the chip. So, is the cost of $729 reasonable? (Superchip tuner and the dyno/tuning) I will be getting 4.10's installed as well, and the gear change will have to be adjusted for with the tune.
Laracca quoted me at $500 for the gear install (i believe that was including the cost of the gears themselves). Meanwhile JDM quoted me at 400 for the install plus fluids, if i brought my own gears. Is JDM trying to pull a quick one on me? Whats a resonable price for a gear install with the cost of the gear included. (meaning out the door price)
Im thinking i might be heading to larraacs for both a gear install and a chip burn. Anyone have any opinion of them? good or bad?

Any help is appreciated.
Mike

How far is Deer Park, NY from you?

Mustang Magic does gear installs for under 375 and that includes the gears also(3.73s or 4.10s) might want to look into them also if they aren't too far. They do them while you wait also

SCT is king! I've got the chip, but if I had it to do over again, I would have gotten the handheld tuner. The tuner costs $429 over at www.modulardepot.com - same as JDM quoted you.
But the $300 is a bit high for dyno time and tuning - do they own their own dyno? How much time do the expect to spend tuning it (for $300)?
I paid $329 for the chip (in Dec 03), then another $200 for dyno time/tune/burn - and to me this was high.
(I understand we have to help them pay for the hardware and software, but jeez, you can buy everything but the dyno for less than two grand.)
I paid $400 for gears and labor, plus another $25 or so for Royal Purple, shims, etc. $400 just for labor is high!
BUT...to an extent...you get what you pay for.

I'v had work done at crazy Horse. They put in my 373's for $425 parts and labor. Did it in 1 hour and 20 minutes. couldn't believe it. Chris Winters is a good guy. He hand delivered my Superchips 1725 tuner to me because I drove down there thinking he had it and he didn't. He drove up to my town to give it to me a week later. Good guy. Cost, $350, but this was about 10 months ago. Price has gone up since then. I paid $780 for my magnaflow X Pipe and catback about that time also, now I here the price is up to about $1000. Yikes!

Any chip can be unplugged and the EEC will return to stock.

Don't care if it is SCT, EFI Solutions or Diablo, it is all in the hands of the tuner you trust.

Well ill have to check with crazy horse to see what they would charge. Has anyone been tuned by crazy horse with the SCT or anyother chip/programer? Does anyone here have personal experience with getting tuned by crazy horse?
