Supercharged 2.3

Second that, I think it's cool because of the attempt.

There was a pretty good discussion regarding a blown 2.3 a while back, but I think this is the first time I've seen it done.


There's some interesting stuff there for sure. At first I was intrigued by the engine driven fan until I realized it was a Ranger. Notice that he's running what looks to be the stock MAF. It's at a funky angle but it apparently works. It sure got crowded over there on the passenger side didn't it? Did anyone else catch the twin throttle bodies? It looks like the linkages might be tied together, but only the TPS on the one near the fender is wired.

It'd certainly be worth it to see how this project progresses. It looks like the hard part has been done, now it's time to work out the bugs, chase out the weak links and fine tune the package. It'd be interesting to see where it max's out and how it performs against the turbo.

I believe I've seen that truck before...looks like a weird-ass setup, I have to wonder how much fab work went into that vs. throwing on a turbo....probably a lot more.

Seeing as how more often than not it was the supercharger that put them in the junkyard I agree its best to stay away from 'em. The most aptly named supercharger ever. Eaton. Eaton belts, Eaton bearings, Eaton my hard-earned money.

He claims he's running about 5psi so that keeps him right about where everyone agrees the threshold between cast and burnt pistons lies.


RedLX, Aside from the intercooler piping and mounting, everything else he's done is way outside the norm of a turbo swap.

I got a kick out of his EEC tuning. Make hardware changes and drive it til it figures out what I done. It must work, don't let the Tweecer guys hear this.

All joking aside, the guy did what he set out to do and that alone is commendable.

I salute his ingenuity, but I still see this guy as a man with too much time on his hands. better results could have been made with far less effort and money.

newer Ranger 2.3s are blown all the time, unless im thinking of the 4.0 version?

i think your thinking of the whipple charged 3.0 v6's in the rangers

that's the craziest s**t I've ever seen. Ya know, there is a blower I've seen installed on cameros on tv that is the size of like an AC compressor, in fact, I think I saw one that adapter platted into the stock position of that part and used the stock belt. Maybe that could work on the 2.3 a hell of alot easier than that monstrosouty. Still, as a mad genius who will do anything to gain a horse or two, I tip my hat to him. He freaking did all that work for 5 psi of boost. I have often wondered if it would be worth it to hook a 100 p.s.i air tank and small compressor up to a 2.3 and set it for like 2-4 lbs of release and have a button for it like a cheap small nitrous boost. maybe a stage two switch that set's it at 10 psi. It would be short lived, but if it got you down the track, the compressor could recharge your tank during staging. Hell, if you had the balls, I reckon you could even charge it with butane.

that is awesome. the talk always comes up once a year atleast. but this is the first I have ever seen of some action..
