Supercharger Install

What are you guys being charged for the install? Do you do it yourself.. or pay someone? I'm trying to get an estimate on total assests I need to build before I make the jump. What would it cost for the install?

do your own install, that is what makes a true "car guy".
install is probably going to cost you about $500-650 if you decide on that route.

I don't think I have all the tools to take on a supercharger install.

How long would it take a pro.. 6 hours? That means it would be close to 2 days for me if I'm lucky, haha.

go somewhere else, you're getting ripped off.

& try to talk one of your buddies into helping that knows his way around cars or at least has all the tools. it's very doable, you just gotta get started on it

$550 for vortech/paxton install @ modularpowerhouse

but you also need to get a dyno tune which runs about $500 more

I paid about $1100, including dyno time and custom tune. This was not your basic KB install though, we used a Chicane expansion tank that needed to be modified, and used a MAC CAI w/ a Lightning MAF. I could have maybe gotten it done for a little less from some rinky dink shop, but I am pretty anal, and was really impressed with the guys who did it. It turned out very clean, and actually better than expected.

And me being happy with the results is all that really matters.

It doesnt seem too hard.. but i dont wanna get in over my head. I'm not extremely knowledgable.. but I could learn..

Is it necessary to get guages and a tune?

DO NOT INSTALL YOURSELF!!! (after seeing this)

Its ALL about the tune, you could blow your engine up pretty quick if you don't know what your doing. It would be alot better for you to save up and pay for an install and good tune, you'll feel 10x better once you get overthe money hit in your pockets. In the long run a the $$$ for a tune is well well worth it. It will run better, have more power, and last ALOT longer with a good tune.

well he could always install it & take it to a tuner, but just make sure to keep it out of boost & he should be fine. isn't steeda close to him

what blower you thinking of going with? from what i've read around here, the KB comes with a very detailed install book with pics for every little step along the way. everyone said its very easy to understand.

Don't be a wuss, do it yourself. Besides, you will learn things about the car and become better at working on it yourself(plus you'll be savin money).

I didn't have MPH do my install, did it over 2 weeks at the house. I think the total time I spent working on it was maybe 6 - 8 hours. There's really no special tools you need w/ the exception of the fuel line disconnect to put a new pump in, a punch, and a tap for the oil return (provided it's a Paxton/Vortech). What kit are you looking at, the prepackaged Vortech kit? If so, I believe you have to send your computer out to them or something, so they can flash it. I had Tims tune on a chip already and just stayed out of the boost until I could get on the dyno. It's rough not to get on it, but I had no issues.

I was considering a procharger.. I'm extremely new to this, obviously. But I am eager to learn things. I was convinced on a procharger kit.. but maybe KB? I don't know really. What would be the best suggestion you guys can give? Money isnt a HUGE issue.. but it is important. Plus, I'm not making a race car.. just adding some power.

if it were me i would stay away from procharger, but thats jsut me. & i say that cause tim (cobra killer) does my tuning & he complains about tuning them for some reason. not sure what that reason is though, but they seem to be harder to tune for whatever reason

KB = kenne bell.
