I need some opinions on this. I dont know if to go with a supercharger or turbo. If I go with a turbo it will be twin turbo for sure. Im looking at a Kenne Bell twin screw supercharger right now. Any help would be appreciated.

Turbo. No drag at all on the engine and psi for psi, more power due to the fact that the s/c takes about 40-60 HP to drive. Besides, everyone has an s/c.

id go with the kb less tuning and alot more installs have been done on them. turbo is way faster but alot harder to deal with in the long run.

??? turbo ???

turbo takes no torque to turn. With an auto it is killer fast with no lag when grag racing. I used to drive a turbo regal, it was a blast to watch the boost gauge rise while holding the brake. However, I work with screw chargers for a living in at our plant. while they are displacement limited like roots chargers, they are not as limited, and they dont heat the air as much. screw chargers can operate at 12000 rpms. i realize compressors are not the same, but we use tham because they are the only compressor type that can build pressure as quickly as we need it. screww chargers are also the type used on the king $h!t FORD GT. Do you need every HP, then turbo, if you need proven trouble free then screw charger. I just wish I could adapt our 2 litre chargers to my car. (working on it)

At least you don't live in CA. Turbo's hardly seem to pass smog.

It all depends on what your goals are how is your car driven. It also depends on how much $$ you're willing to shell. Is your car a daily driver or weekend warrior? Are you planning on 1/4 mile racing a lot at the strip?

I chose the KB 1.7L 9 PSI because I simply wanted a fast and fun daily driver. The instant boost and power of the twin screw fits my needs the best.

I'm sure guys with other power adder setups can offer reasons for their choice as well. Good luck.

so to avoid this you get.....(drumroll) a turbo timer. my buddy has one on his wrx and it shuts the car down after 2-3 mins to this way the car cools down to avoid frying the bearings in the turbo. and you dont need the key on it to keep it running and the parking brake has to be enganged and if the brake is release the car will shut down (as a security precaution so no one walks up and thinks its an easy steal)

the big question is do you want to do with the car. is it a daily driver or a trailer queen for the drag strip or something in the middle?

Its goin to be a daily driver. I just loved the sound and power of a turbo. If i go turbo would it be better to go single or twin for a streeet use. Im goin to run at the strip sometimes but not often.

There is a mechanical way to save the turbo also. s spring loaded sealed can will hold oil while running, then release it after shut off.

I don't know of any single turbo kits for the 4.6, though they're probably some. But most ppl use the HP Twins. But these are going to cost you at least 7K. Not really worth the extra $$$ just for that sound on a stock block IMO....unless you're willing to spend another 4.5k+ for a built motor in order to reach monster hp/tq #s. That's a different story.

If you have the $ go with a twin setup. The kits come with everything you need except a shortblock to handle all the new power. I don't have any problems driving the car anywhere. Even if you get a kb it's going to cost about the same as twin setup if you buy headers, midpipe, k-member, a-arms and coilovers.

expensive

a lot more costly than the 'old' days of draw through/blow through and timing retarder.
