Hey guys, as you all probably know by now, I'm getting a blower - one question (probably of many) that I will have... will my stock internals be alright? I'm going to be running a Vortech 8-10PSI Aftercooled SC... SCT Chip... 3.90 gears.. ect,. My main concern are my stock headers and after all is said and done I won't have enough money for after market ones as much as I'd like them. Will I be alright with a good SCT tune and only running between 8-10PSI on stock internals (especially my headers) Thanks guys.

dude, his has been posted soooo many times.

No, your engine won't last as long as it should, but as long as your aren't way over 400rwp and a safe tune your engine should survive for a while.

Stock headers won't be hurt at all with a s/c people only put aftermarket headers on for performance and sound. As far as getting the s/c on stock internals lots of people have done it...it will most likely shorten the life of your motor but if you save up for a forged shortblock while you drive it you'll be ok. Just make sure you have a really really good tune.

it wont last long without some good internals....this is one reason why the 03/04 cobras are so popular is because they have forged internals which are capable of tons of power!!

you wull be fune as long as you get a good tune. but you should start saving for forged internals. the stock headers aren't going to hurt you.

How long would some of you guys say you would think I'd be fine running my SC stock? (Rough estimate)

BTW - My tune is comming from modulardepot.com (sct chip), so should be a nice one.

if you keep the power level reasonable and don't have any detonation, it could last 5 years. if you get detenation, you could blow it the first time out.

It really depends on your driving style and luck. There are guys out there with over 100k miles with their superchargers. Then there are those that blow the engine at 2k miles. Like most folks say, If you can not afford to rebuild your engine, or be without your car until you can. It might be a good idea to wait awhile.

With that being said, I am hoping to get many years of life with my stock engine. With the exception of a few auto/xs a year my car rarely gets run hard. It will probably never see a drag strip and I have my shift light set at 5500.

Well, I only drive my car in the Summer and leave it in storage for Winter. I'll maybe drive it between 1-3K miles a year (Summer only). Will this give my blower a hopefully longer lasting life? Also - I do not intend to beat on it unless I'm at the track.

Simple question - Would JBA Shorty headers (If I can afford them) be a good addition as the blower was being installed. I mean good addition as in would it help the engine/blower combo last longer. Some people tell me it would (gets all that boost out quicker), but I want to hear from you guys before I purchase them. Thanks guys,


Edit: Would I also have to get my chip re-burned to accomodate for the headers or would I be fine as far as running it goes? (I got headers on my old v6 and I was fine w/o a chip) Just want to make sure. Thanks again guys.

my one suggestion is a bigger oil pan. My main bearing went out about 5K after S/C install, now I'm running an 8 qt oil pan.

my car runs strong as hell w/ 103 K miles -
just be sure you get a good tune, and don't rag it out.

In this case it SHOULD give you many years of life. Just make sure you get a good tune. A/F ratios are not the only important factor. Make sure your tune is conservative with the timing as well. Also be carefull with your rev limiter. Sometimes I wonder how many blower engines are actually damaged from over reving as some folks raise or actully remove the limiter.

As far as the headers go... They won't help your engine last longer. But they will give you more power. I really am not sure if you will need to get a retune or not. At the very least you should run your car on the dyno after installing them to make sure your tune is still in check.
