I posted this in the power adder forum and have yet to receive a response, so I'll post it here too....

All right, here is the question....one that's been asked a million times by now, I'm sure....but I can't seem to find the answer. I have a 00 gt with just an x-pipe and cat back and am looking to perhaps add a supercharger (I'd love to go turbo, but it just seems to be too expensive). I want safe, reliable horsepower...nothing too crazy, maybe 350 - 370 rwhp. I do not plan on ever drag racing....Imean never...in fact I would prefer to have the power come on more towards the upper end of the rpm's than the lower......Being this car is more about highway mileage than anything I am interested in acceleration from 20 to 120 mph, not 1/4 mile times. This car will not be run hard (hasn't yet), just a spirited pull now and then...this is my only mode of trans, so it cannot break. So, here it is.....what do I get??

From what I gather....my desire to have more upper end power and less low end torque would steer me away from a KB twin-screw setup....but when i start reading about Paxton/Novi/Procharger/ATI/Vortech my eyes glaze over and my brain starts leaking out of my ears (not to mention t-trim, s-trim, etc.....). It also would seem that an intercooler is not something I would need as much (I would never be running it hard or doing repeated full throttle applications). So what suits my needs best??

Price is an object......so give me a ballpark for everything needed (minus install and tune). I appreciate all of your opinions so let's hear 'em.

Chris

1st of all...speed is addictive...and tho i wana say its cool to hear someone say they are gunna make their car into a monster and keep it quiet, we all know you WILL get on it and FLOOR IT...

with that being said...
i highly suggest a vortech, and i highly recommend the cobra killer kit...comes with some fuel components and is a COMPLETE kit

look into it

My vote is for the Vortech too. The Cobra Killer setup gives you an adaptive tune that pulls timing and adds fuel when the intake temperature rises so you'll be very safe.

... you really believe that :p

I have a bike for the fast stupid things......no need for me to tear up my car:)

Ahhh.....finally some good opinions and info......keep it coming.....

As for the cobra killer kit.....where is this kit found??

Thanks

www.modularfordpowerhouse.com It is actually called the mongoose kit. But one of the owners of the company posts on here as Cobra Killer so that is why most refer to it as the cobra killer kit.

Ahhhh....now I have it all figured out.....that's T&J's outta Georgia, right?? This might work out well, seeing how I'm gonna be stationed in Louisiana for a year or so...............

Thanks,
Chris

You pretty much sound like me. I don't drag race my car or really beat on it. You can look at my sig to see what I chose. So far I am extremely pleased.

yellow2Kgtk,

Based on your signature, I like the sound of your car. It might be the direction I'm going for. I'd love a Magnaflow catted-X and a Vortech after that.

How do you know which Vortech S/C to get though? I'd like the SQ, but what does teh V-1 and V-2 mean? Also, did you develop any traction issues after installing the S/C? Is it hard to put the power to the ground?

I would as well definetly recoomend the cobra killer kit. I just ordered a T-trim kit with an intercooler and will be installing it next week. Tim is a great guy to deal with. Give him a call sometime and he will tell you everything you need to know. Goodluck with your choice!

B7,
The main difference between the V1 and the V2 is the sound. The V1 has straight cut gears which makes the unit loud. Sitting at idle the blower has a loud whine that can be heard. The V2 has helical cut gears along with some other changes that makes the unit nearly silent(altough I have been told that you can still hear it.) At first I wanted the V2 (quite version) but right now Tim has a special on T trims so I went that route, and am glad I did. As far as traction goes: It really depends. First gear can be very tricky, but for the most part I can still get on it hard without too much trouble.

if you plan on not going to the track wouldnt the KB or the allen be a better blower..
Not necessarily although the twin screw will definately hold its own. 03 Cobras running 9s with them just like guys running 9s with centrifugals. The majority of people out there just want a solid 11 or 12 second street car and for that a twin screw or centrifugal will work just fine.

yeah

but the roots style will give you full boost at really low RPM which is better for everyday driving.. the centrifcle is cool for the track.. no boost under 3000 RPMS..
