How long has it been since you finished the conversion? When I did my MAF conversion to my 88 about three years ago it took the car probably around 3-4 days for the PCM to learn. At first mine did not want to idle and would stall pretty often. I then added a idle control plate that ford makes. It goes between the IAC and the throttle body and you can set your idle with adjustments of two screws. In the matter of a couple days of driving the car ran perfect, no more stalling and a nice smooth idle.

i guess my problem has nothing to do with the MAF conversion at all seeing that i had this car for a couple of months now and it still surges.....it's so frustrating....i changed the distributor cap and rotor wires plugs......did a compression check....and what's weird is when i first start him up.....It's nice and fine.....idles smoothly and everything......and then a lil later (a minute or 2) it starts to surge like crazy....WTF?

Vacuum leak?

Have you reset the computer? If not then discconect the Positive (+) side of the battery for about an hour (to be safe) then plug it back in, and let it idle, then go for a normal (going easy on the gas) drive, and let it idle again for a little bit. This will let the computer re-learn the fuel curves again and such.

Disconect the battery, let sit for about 30 minutes disconected. Make sure mass air is calibrated for injectors, may take a couple of hours for the computer to calibrate if its is a A9L or Z3X. Sometime clocking the meter 90 degrees helps. Do you know what computer you have?

not to sound like a smart ars but what about the obvious stuff like tps sensor or some carbon build up in the throttle body. they are bad about that.

i' cleaned just about everything, and done the battery disconnect. it surges in the beginning and smoothes out after a min but still continues to surge , however if you unplug the timing plug it runs fine. will it hurt if it doesnt have that pluged in?

Anybody running non-cruise control cars? I've heard if you don't put the dsm switch (digital speed managment....I think that's what it was called) you will have problems. There was some acrticles on conversions about this....just don't remember links. I'm really dreading converting mine, I've had the parts 8 months now.

I don't think it would be the module on the distributer the Ignition Control Module, mine went bad and car just wouldn't start. You said u clean everything but i tend to think its the Idle Air Control. Mine sticks a lil seems like in winter its worst. just my 2 cents
