Suspension and Steering

I just got my 1966 Coupe with a 289. C-4 and power steering. I went to the allignment shop today and he would not allign it because the front end is in bad shape. All the bushing and ball joints need to be replaced. Also the boot on the steering cylinder is gone so I would assume I need to replace it too.

Should I have them do all the work or should I get the parts and do it my self and have them allign it when I am done? If I am better off doing it can anyone tell me where I can find a kit with all of the things I need or tell me what all I need?

I buy alot of my stuff from www.mustangsunlimited.com but it doesnt hurt to check around. I know several other people will chime in with lots of diffrent places all claiming they are the best. Just do you homework and fiond out where you can get the best deal.

Basicly all places will sell suspension rebuild kits. I would suggest doing it yourself and having it aligned at a shop. The suspension rebuild isnt a very hard task to do and will save yourself plenty of cash.

ya that looks good i got about the same thing from mustangs plus with some different upgrades. it drove great after i did the front.

If the front end's bad then the rear's probably pretty sad too. Get a kit that does the lot, shocks and springs also, no point fixing up the front if the rear's bouncing all over the place.

Your car is about 40 years old. It needs new suspension.

I love my suspension from Mustangs Plus (but a lot of other places make stuff as well)

Suspension....

New Upper/lower arms with neg. wedge kit and Shelby drop, sway bars, steering linkages, 620 springs, shocks, 4 1/2 leaf mid eyes.

With an alignment and a few hundred miles break in on the box, my car handles and steers awesome. I love it.

That kit has most the stuff, but ni idler are or center link or tie rod ends. The kit will give you a good start, but you will probably have to buy more stuff once you get into it. All the parts are available individually.

Are you sure you are comfortable replacing the entire front suspension on the car yourself? It doesn't sound like you have ever done something like this before.
