i have a 65 coupe with a 302.. all my suspension is stock. i need everything new except for bushings on frontend and upper and lower control arms. i need everything for the rear and everything else for the front. ive been trying to look around and find kits but im not really sure what im looking for. i want a 1 inch drop in fron and 1 inch in back. so i think i want the mid eye leafs...im just not sure on 4, 41/2 or 5 leafs. its a daily driver but i want to be able to race it both on street and some road tracks. what do you guys suggest? and also where is a good place to order this stuff? :shrug: thanks

Mustangs plus has good kits, mid eyes should be good, I have the reg ones and with big tires it looks nice. Get a 1 1/8 sway bar for the front and a 3/4 in the back, and id say 620 springs. Ive got 4.5 leaves and kyb shocks. they are a little stiff but fun. you can do a shelby drop and cut a little off of the 620 like i did, improves handling and looks better. Theres also a neg wedge kit that does the same thing but drops it more, huge post about that whole thing a few days ago. You shouldnt have much trouble finding old suspension posts theres a million of the same question. Check out historic's site its pretty good on suspension for a track car.

do you have any pictures of your car so i can see what it looks like? or know any sites that have alot of cars with different size rims and dirfferent drops? i wanna do this the right way. ive heard that mustangsplus has crappy customer service. and i see alot of grab-a-trac tuff out there? good stuff? thanks again

I have the suspension setup in my sig, all from M+ . Mustang Steve's website shows a bunch of different ride heights.

Good luck, over stock the aftermarket stuff will make a HUGE difference in the feel of the car, well worth it.

This is after I lowered the front, didnt touch the back. Probly as low as I can go in the front b/c the upper arms rub a little on the tire when the steering is cranked over.

alot of you guys do the cobra drop...im not quite sure what that consists of thou. ive also heard about drilling new holes 1 inch above stock for the upper a-arm and it lowers the car and inch and makes it handel better? whats the store and that?

ok...on mustangsplus i found a Spring and Handeling Kit for 479 plus 20 for mid eye, 40 for 5 leaf(30 for 4.5) 1 1/8 front swaybar for 10 and grab a track shocks. becoming like 550 plus shipping
OR
the Street Heat kit for 579 with 5 leaf, 1 1/8 sway 3/4 rear sway and kyb shocks and of course 620 coils and stuff. so it would be 580 plus shipping

what the difference in the kyb shocks versus the grab a trac shocks? and is it worth spending the xtra money?

I personally went with the street-heat. Never had the grab-a-traks, but word is the KYBs are just all around better for handling. They are quite stiff however, so if you're doing a lot of daily driving in it and want a comfortable ride, you may want to look into something else.
PS...if you do order that kit and need new bushings for your leaf spring shackles, make sure to order them, they're not included (another $20). Learned taht the hard way..grrrr.

It also included any leaf of your choice and shock package. For every thing I bought was only about 774.00 bucks. It even came with my choice of monte carlo bar style. So far everything has worked great. Go to www.americanpony.com Ask for the "master Big Kit" if you call them. Check it out. You may want to replace the upper and lowers for the price. You cant refuse.

Im not sure what it was that you were looking at, but my kit was for 65-66. I purchased complete uppers and lowers,inners and outers, 1 in. front sway bar, 3/4 in rear, 5 leaf with mid eye, front coils 620's with 1in. drop, kyb gas adjust shocks, strut rod bushings, everything came with the new type of bushing poly-midolene or something of the nature. I also got my pitman arms and sleeves. This kit was a no joke hell of a deal. So far everything has worked out great. I even got my choice of monte carlo bar. Just pick up the phone, call them at 1-866-717-7711. They were friendly and superiour with the deliveries. They are in washington state, and I m in Ohio and I recieved everything in about 4 days. Everything only came to with shipping and handling, was 774.00. Hope this helps. Ask for Fargo. hes the one who helped me! Keep Mustanging.

alright...well i ordered the street heat kit for my car. it came in today so im will start putting it on tonight and tomorrow. any suggestions on what i could od to make it as simple as possible? whats the easiest way to change out the rear sway bars and shocks? ive done front before, but never rear.

If you've done front, you're in luck. I think the front took me about 3x longer than the rear did.
Make sure to support the rear end in the center section and hubs, the leafs are what holds them up. I supported the driveshaft towards the rear end aswell as the weight of it made the whole rear end roll towards the front of the car.
The forward leaf spring bolts can be a PITA to get out sometimes, I had to take the sawzall to mine, and so have a lot of other members, so that's not unusual.
Rear shocks are extremely simple, access them through taking the back seat out, plain and simple.

No advice on the sway bars...one or two guys here have had theirs cause some body damage, so I'm going to find a way to reinforce that before I put it in.

That's pretty much all the tips I can think of, it's pretty easy. Good luck.

Just curious, how did the sway bars cause damage?

well. i installed most of the suspension kit today. had some difficulty. first...the spring compressor i rented had been stripped in one area so i couldnt compress my springs. so i decided to put the shocks on anyways because mine where totally shot. then i installed the front sway bar. then im moved onto the rear. no prob with leaf springs, couldnt figure out how to take my back seat off to remove rear shocks, but the cool thing about that, i found that sombody had put some monroe shocks on it, nothing specialy but just a simple gas shock. then i tried to figure out the rear sway bar...couldnt fingure out how to do it.

so my questions now...is there a certian way to get the back seat out to get to the rear shocks? and anybody have a picture or directoins on how to put this rear sway bar in? or should i even do it considering the last post was about sombody having them rip right out of the car?
