Well i am just getting out some rad ideas that i could possibly do. I am in love with the cobra r, and how its so powerful stock, and is the same as a 03 cobra. Well if i could find the motor some where for cheap what would it take to do a swap, what kinda of 5.4 would i need, or what would i need? new mounts?computer? etc. please help that would be soo awsome if i could do that. thanks!

I think a new hood would be the least of your problems. I think it would take a lot of doing, and as far as I know they didn't sell the 5.4 from the Cobra R anywhere. You could get a 5.4 from a Navigator or something, but to get Cobra R power out of it you would have to do a lot of work to it.

I think you would be better off just buying a crate motor from Ford Racing or another company. Or just get a good shop to build you a new motor.

a junk navigator build up is gonna be your most feasible, cost-affective option. The main reason i decided against a 5.4L DOHC swap is because they had so many problems making them rev high like the cobra DOHC 4.6L does. Once they pushed it passed the 6500 range there were alot of issues.

The intake issue has basically been resolved by modular performance:

These intakes offer Fuel Injected and Carburated options for the 5.4L engine. They also plan to offer a twin screw/roots style blower mounting lower intake. If that comes out i may consider this swap again as compared to going with a 01 cobra engine and building up for a supercharger.

if you really want the displacement I would just get a bored, stroked, cammed, valved, ported & polished 4.6 4v longblock...it would be a lot easier/more power efficient than transplanting a cobraR 5.4L motor...plus it would be primed for a blower if you did it right (just do it with the right internals) then strap on the new 2.2L kenne bell and you'll have more power than you ever knew what to do with

Ive been thinking about this same question. I think i read something in Muscle mustangs and Fast fords a while back on this. Ill have to look for it. I think they took the engine out of a van or something. ill look for it and get back to you.

You dont want a lightning longblock although that is a damn good price for supercharger and all. Navigator engine will do fine for alot cheaper and give you the opportunity to build it the way you want to. I think the 99-01 nav. engines have forged cranks stock too.
