i am going to motive 4.10's. my car only has 6000 miles on it. the mechanic would prefer to have the bearing-install kit. it is supposed to make the job easier. do you guys think i should pay the 90 bucks for the kit or take my chances and hope it goes smooth? maybe if it takes longer to install without the kit it would have been better to just buy it then to have more labor charged to me. he say the bearings can get jammed in there. what do you guys think?

You should get the bearing kit to be on the safe side.
Also don't get the motive gears get the FRPP 4.10 ring
and pinion instead you will be better off!

if your gonna get a bearing kit then make sure its from richmond or you will end up with cheap bearings. with motive gears, the setup will need new pinion shims and carrier shims. your stock bearings should be ok unless they get damaged during the install.

get the bearings. it don't make it easier.. well in a way it does.. it prevents having too take it apart a second time too replace the bearings after you road test it.

don't be cheap and do the job right. NEVER REUSE DIFF BEARINGS.

i missed that the first time. this is just a flat out (your a idiot and here is a reason you need this in idiot terms for you) response. the bearings getting jammed in there

WOW was this a service writer or a mechanic.. sometimes the service writers forget why we told them somthing is bad, then they make up somthing off the cuff when they are on the phone with the customer.

ok anyways the real reason you should do new bearings is. the bearings is what everything in the rear end rides on. these items take a lot of wear. and it's a lot cheaper to replace them the first time, rather than reusing them and a month later they make noise. then when they make noise you blame the shop and want it for free. i assume this shop is like mine, and if it is they don't want too do free work because you wanted too skimp on bearings.
