Swapping out the alternator [UPDATE!]

Welp, it seems that my stock alternator is dying. My silly 800w amp decided to murder it. Now a few questions.

What alternator would you suggest getting? I know 200a. But what brands are reliable and yet not too expensive?

How hard is the alterator swap? It looks like it's bolted on by 4 bolts, but how do you get the pulley off?

Look into Ohio Generator, they are awesome, I have been selling those alternators to my customers for about 3 years now, really good products. Expect to spend anywhere from 450-600 for a good 200-240 hot rated alternator.

The alternator on a 2V 4.6 is probably the EASIEST alternator to R&R I have ever seen!!! Like you said, 4 bolts. Do you really need to take the pulley off? The new one doesn't come with one? . If you have to take it off, carefully hold the pulley with a rag and use an impact wrench, or if your one of those safety types, put a rag around the pulley and GENTLY put it in a vise, same thing, use an impact wrench- it works best!!!!

$400-$650 for a new alternator?! Who sells alternators? I can't seem to find ANY on ANY sites that I know of! I was thinking $200-$300 for an alternator. :-\ Was I that off?

And isn't the pully attached directly to the alternator? It looks like you won't be able to pull the alternator off without getting that pulley off.

you have 2 types of alternators........new and "rebuilt". The rebuilt ones all they do is change the brushes and windings in them. They are cheaper, but you get what you pay for, know what I mean!

*UPDATE!*
I brought my car to my mechanic yesterday because I am just fed UP with this light. It's been going on since I got my car last year. Well, he diagnosed the system and guess what he found out? NOTHING IS WRONG. He said my battery is charging perfectly and my alternator is putting out a constant 14v charge. What the hell!!!

He said the only thing that can be wrong is the sensor may be faulty and just reading the charge wrong. His tip was to watch my meter on my dash. When the light comes on, if the needle movs off the "+" on the battery it means that the alternator is discharging and then I have a problem. But he said the battery and alternator are fine...

Wow...good job Ford.
