Is it ok to switch to synthetic oil? I can't find any info on this at all. I have a 91 5.0 I just freshened up for my 86 vert. Reused rods, pistons, crank, but I did clean them up.

The big worry with synthetics is with ring seal with new rings and clean bore surfaces. If you freshened things up that much, I might run dino oil for a little bit (most of the ring seal should occur within minutes of operation).

I would be doing a break-in period of sorts no matter how much or little was done inside the motor. And dino oil is what I would choose for that short OCI.
MHO.
Good luck.

um rings seating within minutes???? i dont think so......try for a proper break in of rings 8-10 track passes or a good 500 miles.....I would run 10w30 dino oil for the first 1-2k miles then i would change filter/oil to synthetic at that point if you prefer.

You would be surprised HISSIN50 is right the initial runs on the car are where a lot of the seating occurs if you run it hard with a good load on it.
