I saw a guy selling a T-10 four speed for $150. I was wondering what would need to be done to use this. If there aren't many modifications needed than this would be a steal!

i think the T-10 was a truck tranny, so it would be beefier than a t-5, so i would think a crossmember modification along with a different flywheel.

i don't know really know but that doesn't really sound as expensive as it does hard

the t-10 came in ford cars from 60-65, and the super t-10 was in the 66 mustang. its a borg warner transmission, o so im told, i dont know much about it. but ive got one that my uncle gave me that im gonna put in my 69, i here there decent, good for small blocks, they cant take too much but as long as you dont go crazy they should be fine

Street car with a little 302 power and no real modifications, can it hold that? If this tranny is strong enough to run behind a 302 for daily driving and sometimes a heavy right foot then I will consider picking this tranny up for $150 or less, otherwise it is back to the drawing board to find a good four speed.

$150 isn't bad for a T-10. They're not as strong as the Toploaders, but they're fine behind smallblocks. Beware though, it may have a 25 spline output shaft requireing you to swap that as well. Can't say as to where to find a 25 spline slip yoke. Otherwise you may also have cross member /mount issues also.

gm used the super t-10 from the early 70's to mid 80's make sure this tranny is a ford version(this was the best tranny gm offered besides the m22)

one other thing richmond gear bougt that tranny and still make them so parts are available

It is a Ford t-10, not sure of year or application yet but I am interested to see if this will work so i will give the guy a call sometime and as what he knows, thanks

Careful -- the T-10s are fairly light duty transmissions. I have never had one that didn't slip out of second or third. Then again, I like acceleration. If he is selling it that cheap, it might already have that problem. You didn't used to be able to get gears and synchros for them but I understand someone is selling kits for them now.

A top loader is beefier, either the four-speed or T5 five speed. I have 155,000 miles on my T5 (I pulled it from an almost new '93 GT wreck in '93 and installed it behind a warmed up 302 in my '65 convert with a deep ratio, traction lock rear) with absolutely no problems. They cost more, but are well worth it in my experience. Gotta say, if it were me, I'd pass on it.....sorry......

Let me get this straight, you're saying a T5 will handle more than a T10? I'd say they're about equal in terms of durability.

That is my experience, yes. The T10 had design flaws in the gears, perhaps mettalurically softer gears. My experience is that they are not equal in terms of durability. But that is just my experience. My guess is that if that $150.00 trans is installed it will slip out of gear. It is also the experience ot many on the other classic Mustang URL. Remember, ratings are simply numbers, experience tells more. If one is confident, then by all means buy it. But I will not buy a T10 again. Please remember that this has happened to me with more than one T10. The T5 that I have has indeed handled more than the T10 I had in the body. I installed the T5 shortly after the built 302.

So maybe i would be better off looking for a T5 out of a 90-93 mustang. Any alterations required to install this to a 302 in a 65? It is my understanding that the driveshaft is equal length. But I may be wrong..

If the T10 jumps out of gear then that's nothing that a rebuild kit won't fix. I've heard of many more T5's grenading than T10's. The T10's been around far longer than the T5. In fact they're still mfg new. Summit lists them for circle track racers. Don't hear of any one using T5's for that purpose.

i have a personal dislike for t-5's ive shattered 3rd in my first took out the countershaft bearing in my secont one, and now i grenaded my third. im currently looking for a setup to put an old 3 speed toploader in my fox body
