Ok I just bought a 2001 Cobra and the shifting seems rough, like its hard to get into gear. It doesn't grind, it just doesn't seem to want to go into the gear. This especially happens when I get on it hard and shift it hard, it is much harder to shift after that and then it goes back to being normal after alittle while. I have to press the clutch pedal almost all the way to the floor to get it into gear. It's like the release point is really close to the floor and if I shift it hard it gets even closer to the floor. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?

Ok there is a sticky at the top of the section. BUT

i would get a aftermarket firewall adjuster and quadrant. the stock auto adjusting quad sucks. with the aftermarket quad you can adjust the cable tension so the pedal does not have to travel as far to allow sufficient air gap for a clean high rpm up shift. the higher the rpm's the more of a air gap you need. since your a cobra you need at least 2 inches of free play at the bottom of the pedal.

the way to test is see how far you can let up on the clutch from a stop before the car starts to move forward. it should be at least 2 inches. from the floor in your car.

AND BUY ROYAL PURPLE TRANNY FLUID! I was having like the same issues (- the clutch..I have the quadrant and adjuster). Put in the cyncromax RP fluid and it made a BIG difference....love it.

Go on www.summitracing.com and buy 4 bottles of the RP "for manual transmissions that call for automatic tranny fluid" . Here is a pic of the bottles just so you know.

And fill the tranny with about 3.5 of the bottles, I put all 4 in, but after spillage and the stuff that the pump left in the bottle, I called it 3.5. :nice:

Thanks for the responses guys, I think I'll try the fluid change and Maximum Motorsports quadrant and firewall adjuster. Has anyone heard anything bad about their quadrant and adjuster, or do you recommend another manufacturer?

Steeda is another option. :)
