The standard transmission in the four banger is a t-5...the same as the 5.0L t-5... or are they different.

I've got a friend who wants to buy a four banger and plop a 351 crate into it .

Thanx

The 4-cyl T5 has weaker internals. Probably wouldn't hold up behind a 351 but it would be worth a shot if the 4 cyl car is cheap enough,

Contrary to popular belief, that is not true. The only difference between a 5.0 T-5 and a 2.3 T-5 is input shaft throwout bearing diameter and gear ratios. All you friend has to do is get the right bushing for the T-5 and a bellhousings and he will be fine. He may however break it prematurely due to the extra torque from a 351. If it's modified, chances are greater. The reason for the lower torque rating is from the gear ratio.

yeah you can. but for the price it's gonna be to get the new parts and then the labor, you might as well just buy a v8 geared t5. unless he's doing the rebuild himself, or whoever.

The gearing and input shaft are whats different. You can mount the 4 cyl. T-5 on the v8 bellhousing, they use the same casing.I don't know about anyone else, but I ran 11.50's on my old coupe with a 4 cyl t-5 and never had troubles with it. Just don't power shift it and get a good aftermarket shifter!!
