T-5 questions, help from T5 gurus is appreciated

There again, the whole engine or just the block? The rotating assembly is the only part that determines what imbalance is needed. Whether you know already or not, I'm just saying for clarity.

I have a Fidanza 157t aluminum flywheel in my '68 and it came with not only two different counterweights, but also bolt patterns for both early style Long clutches as well as the later diaphragm type with metric bolts.

If you use the entire late model block (pretty much anything built after 1984) or the rotational assembly it's going to be 50oz. That flywheel was what I was originally looking to buy when I started my swap.

yeah, its a complete late model engine assembly I am looking to build, for several reasons I just dont want an early one, and I want to be able to shift fairly high RPM...so I'll need a diaphram type clutch I believe(I want to be able to take full advantage of the 5.0s square rod/stroke ratio)

The diaphragm clutch won't make it shift any different. About the only difference is a flatter pressure plate assembly and a little lighter pedal feel. The 302/5.0 is actually oversquare, BTW. 4.00" bore and 3.00" stroke.

What's this going into? You're not ditching the SHO-TT project are you?

well, the whole reason I was doing the SHO swap was I thought there was a weight savings of 150lbs...that being the driving reason behind it, but as it turns out the SHO engine is actually 5lbs heavier than an iron head 302....so my main reason is no longer there....even though the SHO engine conversion is almost done it just doesnt make any real sense to put it in my mustang mainly becuase to finish it the way I want it I would have to chop out my shock towers and I really never have wanted to do that...so the SHO engine will go into something else of mine(theres a MG midget I've been looking at that it would be awesome for) the 5.0 will bolt into my mustang(big advantage) and manifolds are easy(just flip the stock ones upside down and weld on a turbo flange) and it seems I can even use the V6 tranny...true, its not unique, but the 5.0 aftermarket isnt dead....I hate to say it, but the SHO engine(much as I love it) is an obsolete engine I just cant find parts for(and making them gets expensive...for instance a set of forged pistons runs $800...I can almost buy a stroker kit for that for a 5.0) so yeah, my SHO engine goes back on my shelf of engines and trannies for another car

Five pounds heavier than the 5.0? Wow, could have gone with a 2.3 turbo. Those at least weigh the same as a smallblock and not more. They bolt up to a T5 also.

well, there is conflicting info on weight, and I have no clue who to believe...it seems lighter from lugging it around, but I dont know for sure...oh well, it would make a perfect engine for a Fiero(everything is idealy suited to that engine bay, unfortunatelt I no longer have that engineless fiero sitting around, too bad) anyway, the 5.0 offers other opportunities for me...with all the aftermarket heads its a shame no one has come out with a OHC head yet(I want 4 valves)...cant be that hard to adapt if you are making new castings anyway, anyway, does anyone know what type of starter I will need for this? will a v8 starter work with both a 157 tooth flywheel and the 164 tooth version too?

Get the mini starter out of the V6. At least you know it will work with the bell and flywheel. I used the factory 5.0L gear reduction starter wihtout problems.
