Well, it seems the tailshaft housing wasn't the only thing bad, cause i blew the tranny last night on my way to work (One of the only times i wasnt hot rodding it for a change, go figure). I only have 4th gear. I know it needs rebuilt, but the question is; 1. How many of you have performed a rebuild 2. If you have, how hard is it, especially with the clearences and measurements and such 3. how much is a typical rebuild kit, and 4. Would it be worth it to take it to a shop? Thanks Guys

here here

subscribing cause i have looked at the cost of rebuilding it myself and just buying one rebuilt already. the problem that i think that im going to run into is that i have no idea how to measure the play of this and the play of that, and i dont want to waste money into something that i have no idea if its going to work.

The synchros went out of my Dad's '88 GT and he had those and a few other things done for around $1500. As far as I'm concerned he should have spent another $500-$1,000 and gotten a brand new one. That's just me, though. Personally, unless you really know what your doing with a tranny, I'd suggest taking it to a shop, as said earlier it's no easy task.

1500 dam he could of goting a new T 5 for that price!

if you plan on any power mods on the car in the future, spend a little extra and get a tremec tk-500/600. i had my t-5 rebuilt by a reputable tranny shop and it just wasn't ever the same and many of my friends have had similar experiences. you can get everything to swap to a TK-500 for just over $2000 and swapping it yourself if pretty easy

you can get a good rebuild kit along with and instructional video from D&Dmotorsports.........

honestly though, i would buy the rebuild kit, remove the tranny, call around about a "Bench Build" in other words all they do is the labor in dissasembly...... etc... You are gonna have to have gears as well, i guarantee yours are missing teeth.....you shifted 3rd hard HUH.. just a guess

most shops will do a bench build around here for about 250$......should only take about 2-3 hours to completely go through a t-5 on reassembly, once all parts etc are gather, spec'd etc...

my buddie recently wanted a g-force kit, he waited over 2 months for just the kit, never got it so he bought a tko 600......

so good luck if you want a g-foce actually getting the kit, I have however heard rumors or Astro Performance, putting out there own kit that is similar soon....

getting a t5 rebuilt isnt worth it if you ask me. unless you get every upgrade you possibly can to make it stronger. but than you might as well buy one that is already stronger and brand new. thats why i bought my tko 500. but now im trying to sell it to get a c4
