T-5 Tranny mount WAY off line! WTF??

Alrighty, I got my current engine/tranny combo out of a wrecked 95 GT that was a buddy of mine's. He originally had an auto and put in this T5 W/C "Z" brand new not long ago. When he put it in his car, he had to rig an "adapter plate" so that the mount could be bolted up. I thought it was just because his was originally an Auto, but when I put it in my car (always been a 5-speed) I had the same problem. (see picture below) I know that the W/C "Z" tranny is made for the Foxes, but it shouldn't be THAT far off. Plus I had already rheamed out the holes on my crossmember when i used to have a TKO in there (which if you don't know are also made for the Foxes.) What the heck is going on?? The shifter seems to line up where it should for a fox tranny (had to cut out my tunnel a little for the TKO), so why is the freakin' mount so far off? This "rigged" mount isn't working too well which is why I want answers! Thanks!

Not sure I understand the pic. Seems like the mount bolts are running through the middle of the crossmember and not at the attached plate. Am I right? I also have that plate cause my tranny is off a fox and it's shorter. 94-95 T5 are longer and don't need that plate, they'll line up with the holes on the cross member.

after looking at the pic for several minutes, it seems that the bolts coming from the middle of the cross member are the bolts holding down the plate, right? And the bolts on the plate are to the mount? Seems weird since the mount attaches with nuts. Oh well, well if that's the case, make sure your plate is centered properly, or trying turning the mount around.

Yeah you are right. I have a Energy Suspension mount so they use bolts instead of nuts to attach them. I had to find a couple of nuts and bolts to attach the plate to the crossmember, then used the supplied bolts to bolt the mount to the plate. It just doesn't make sense because the difference in length of the Foxes and 94/95 trannys is only just over 1/2", but I'm probably 3-4" off. Do you have yours bolted up like I did? Do you have any pictures?

I don't have any pics, but that's exactly the way mine is mounted. The only difference is that my plate is welded on at the same level as the c/m.

why don't you just go find the exhaust hanger plate that comes on these cars? V6 cars have the same plate with the offset holes. I have a fox tranny in my car right now with the stock hanger plate it it all lines up perfectly!

Do you have a picture of this setup? I used to have the stock hanger plate but I took it off when I put my exhaust on years ago. I didn't remember for sure but I thought that plate just bolted up between the tranny and the C/M, it didn't actually move the location of the bolt holes.

I'm trying to figure out why it is so far off, though. I was looking up some dimensions, and here is what I found:

Now I used to have a TKO in my car with no bracket needed for the mount.

It says that the TKO dimension from the input shaft tip to the mount is 584.53 mm, which is 23.01".

Now the 93-prior T5 transmissions (no dims for the 94/95 found yet) have the same dimension being 550.2 mm, which is 21.66".

That gives me a difference of 1.34", and as you can tell from my picture above, I am WAY off that mark. Actually, I found another site that gave me a difference of input shaft length between the 94/95 T5s and the 93-prior T5 is 0.67" (with the 94/95 being longer). That would make it's total dimension of 22.33". So comparing the original 94/95 to the 93-prior the difference in mount location should only be 0.67", right?

The plate I'm talking about came on 5 speeds only, the AODE plate had the bolt just going through it into the tranny, the 5 speed ones have the mount bolted to the plate and the plate bolted to the tranny. On mine with a fox transmission, the mount studs are right in the center of the crossmember slots.

Ahhh...now I understand! So the plate should be between the the mount and the tranny not the way I have it between the mount and the crossmember...right?

right... there were nuts welded into the plate for the mount to get bolted to, then there were just holes for bolts to go through into the trans.
