nah the glass is the same
The glass is definately different.. There is a different angle in the curve of it.. Also the the older vert doors from the early 79-86 will work just change the glass. You can also make one by cutting the frame of a regular door.. I seen people do that and they look fine..

I tried to put '90 vert doors on our '87 LX t-top and the glass was about 2" too short. Also yes, the mirrors are different.

i am thinking of getting convertible doors for my 83 t-top so are they gonna be 2 inches too short , i also like the idea of the convertible mirrors i think it gives it a unique look ,what did you end up doing with yours ?, how did you elininate the gap? ,do you have pictures? thanks in advance , sam

Well, it wasn't as simple as just changing glasses. I would have had to cut off the triangular post where the mirrors bolt in on the t-top doors and tried to make that right or then you'd have a gap in the front if you just changed glasses. My doors were rusted bad from the molding down so I cut the doors totally in half and welded the vert door bottoms onto the t-top doors. I extended the vert doors to the interior and up under the door panel. My main seam is under the side molding on the exterior and then I welded them through both jams and around the back and the other seam is just under the door panel. Turned out really nice. Can't see any seams anywhere. Here's a few pics of the car.

If you have a set of T-top doors to start with, with glass, and the mirror trim, etc, you should be able to either install that stuff on a later convertible door, or just cut a similar year door and reinstall it.

My 79 hatch had its t-tops installed by an aftermarket sunroof shop in 81, using the C&C kit. Nearly all of the kit items, mirror mounts, trim glass, weatherstrip, etc, were the same as the early production t-top cars. The shop simply modified my existing hatch doors by cutting off the upper frame.

The only mix and match I have actually done is to get a late 80's set of factory t-tops for a spare set, and they fit my top frames and windows fine.

You can use 87 vert doors since the mirror is by the A pillar and not on the door itself. I put 87 vert doors on my 86 t-top and swapped out the internals. And kept the dew wipe and trim since I added 87-93 1/4 windows. Tried the vert doors with the vert internals, and like mentioned the windows came up about 2" short. So I looked inside and removed stops and adjusted for it to go all the way up, but then it wouldn't roll all the way down. So ended up just swapping all the 86 t-top internals into the 87 vert doors and they worked great. But 87 or very earlt 88 vert doors are the only one you can use. The mirror has to be located by the A-pillar so you can use the t-top internals..

i thought i would bring this back from the dead ,my plans have obviously changed .i have an 87 t-top car that is very clean.i have 2 set of t-top glass that came off 88 top cars with the sail mirrors mounted on the door.my question is i bought some convertible doors with the same style mirrors mounted on the doors and not the A-pillars.the glass is short i measured it so i took the glass out today.will i have to take all the internals as well or can i just swap out the glass?

The glass is different from ttop to conv. I had both glasses sitting next to each other and one is taller than the other.

that is why i am swapping them out is because my doors are shot and i bought some vert doors but the glass is over an inch shorter.i was wondering if anyone else had done this as far as swapping the rest of the internals.i don't think personally that i will have to do this but i would hate to put it all together and then find out i have to take everything back out.

Wow, this is an old thread. I remember what I went through with the ole '87 LX above. Everyone on the net was saying...Oh yeah no problem, vert doors fit the T-tops..they're the same. My mistake was listening to them. Next thing you know I'm cutting doors in half, making jigs..welding....fitting....quite a headache. It all turned out in the end though. I don't know if the internals are the same or not. I don't think you'll know for sure till you try it.
