Hey guys, I doing my turbo swap and auto to manual conversion. My donor car did not come with a tranny so I need to purchase one. I am getting a bit confused on my options.

Do I have to buy a 2.3 tranny? Is there a difference between one from a mustang 2.3 and from a turbocoupe?

What about the 5.0 T5? The bellhousing doesn't match does it? What all would I have to do to get a 5.0 T5 to work?

One more thing. If I already did the wiring and swapped computers, is it to late to still use the auto?

Thanks a bunch...
Mike

the regular 2.3 NA trans is the same as the TC one but the TC one is made to handle more HP. 5.0 tranny has a different input shaft. and the 5.0 bell wont work. to get a 5.0 t5 to work out need a input shaft from a 2.3 t5. or you can have the 5.0 machined. can still use the auto with the 5spd computer just your a4ld wont have a overdrive convertor lock up i drove mine went it was an auto for a while with a 5spd comp. drove fine .

You don't want a 5.0 T5 unless you'll be making pretty big hp. First in that tranny is 3.35, which is really low (or high, I always forget - I know what I mean, though). 2.3 Stang first is 3.97 and TC first is 4.03, IIRC. If you get a tranny from a TC, you'll need the bellhousing from a Mustang to get the cable (TC is hydro, remember).

What computer is in there now? You can use the auto computer with the 5-speed no problem, but since you're going turbo....I dunno. Fill us in.

Well, the computer that I just put in and wired the car for is the LA3 from the '88TC. Will my auto tranny work with that?

Also, I don't plan on adding too much more HP for quite so time. I plan on doing basic stuff (porting, front mount IC, cam). Do you think the mustang 2.3 tranny will hold up ok?

Thanks again
