I recently did the T5 swap for my 65. I went ahead and shortened my driveshaft the needed length, as every post I read notated the fact that this would need to be done. Now I'm helping a friend do the same T5 swap into a 65 coupe as well and I had a thought.......has anyone tried to shorten the yoke out of the 65 the proper length as opposed to the driveshaft? All the reading I've done and research on this forum and no one has mentioned it......so, I'm guessing there's a reason. The yoke from the 65 C4 has about 2 1/2-3" on the shaft before you get to the spline. If this "excess" shaft is cut off, could I still use the yoke? It fits into the T5 with no problem (as far as I can tell) and seems like it would work. We've only eyeballed this and haven't actually put the driveshaft on the car yet. It looks like the ds would fit and still possibly give about 1-1 1/2" of yoke travel as needed. The 65 yoke (cut) is practically the same length as the yoke from the donor 93. Any reason why this wouldn't work?
Thanks for any info!
