I recently did the T5 swap for my 65. I went ahead and shortened my driveshaft the needed length, as every post I read notated the fact that this would need to be done. Now I'm helping a friend do the same T5 swap into a 65 coupe as well and I had a thought.......has anyone tried to shorten the yoke out of the 65 the proper length as opposed to the driveshaft? All the reading I've done and research on this forum and no one has mentioned it......so, I'm guessing there's a reason. The yoke from the 65 C4 has about 2 1/2-3" on the shaft before you get to the spline. If this "excess" shaft is cut off, could I still use the yoke? It fits into the T5 with no problem (as far as I can tell) and seems like it would work. We've only eyeballed this and haven't actually put the driveshaft on the car yet. It looks like the ds would fit and still possibly give about 1-1 1/2" of yoke travel as needed. The 65 yoke (cut) is practically the same length as the yoke from the donor 93. Any reason why this wouldn't work?

Thanks for any info!

You can trim the C4 yoke down to work. The T5 yoke is shorter to allow the fluid to return to the main case from the shifter block area.

The reason that the driveshaft needs to be shortened is to acquire the 1-1/2" of travel for the suspension to actuate. If you have this room then it is not needed. 98% of them need to be shortened.

Hey Glen, how's it goin? Thanks again for the extra work and effort to get me that flywheel. Great doing business with ya.

How close to the spline inside the yoke can I trim to? What's the bare minimum of travel needed?

I would trim it down to about a 1/8” from the spline, insert it into the t% with the proper spacing and just make sure the drain hole is open.

Should do it.

You’re quite welcome on the extra work. Hope the project turns out well.
