Not possible without a custom bellhousing. The T45 bolts to the bellhousing from inside of the bell, so it won't bolt to a 5.0 bell. Since the transmission bolt pattern on the block is different between the 4.6 and 5.0, you'd be hard pressed to find a solution that would be cheap.

What is that mumbo jumbo?? First the T45 is stronger than the T5.

Now to answer the question of the thread starter. No you cannot use it. The T45 is a 3 bolt starter, and when you take the bell housing off a T-45 or TR3650, you expose the gears and the fluid leaks out. It isn't a sealed case like a T5 when you take the bell off. I get a rebuild on your T5. My rebuild is great!

lol. sorry. i guess my opinion is not what you asked for. the only reason i think that is because i've broken more t45's than t5's. and i've NEVER broken a 4cyl tranny - weird? anyway i did not post my full response. that pilot bearing is what is needed to use a 4cyl transmission with the 5.0L

dont listen to guy above j/k it would be easier to find a T5 out of the fox body car or have yours rebuilt.

The 4cyl T5 has a smaller diameter input shaft than the v8 T5. It is actually rated to handle less torque because of that as well. It is possible you havn't broken a 4cyl T5, because most of the 4cyl T5s didn't get the lifetime of abuse like your average v8 T5 would.

Ironically, the T45 has a higher torque capacity than the T5, even than the v8 T5. However, I can't imagine why anyone would purposely put in a T45 unless they like granny shifting. The forks are noritiously weak and make the tranny useless (no internal shift stops either).

bhuff.. where are these ratings at? i dont see why a "detuned" turbo motor would come with a weak transmission. obviously the turbocoupe/svo/xr4ti doesnt make as much torque as a v8, but why would this not contribute to the car getting stronger components than the NA 4cyl?

Of course, the factory torque ratings are much less than what the transmission can actaully handle, but the 4cyl t5 was rated at 240 ft*lbs while the v8 was rated around 300 ft*lbs most years.

As you can see, the input shaft is a smaller diameter on the 4cyl trannys, so it is naturally weaker. Didn't you have to use some kind of bushing to make those 4cyl transmissions work?

Anyway, yes the NA 2.3 t5 was the same as the 2.3 turbo T5. Opens up a lot of possibilites for junk yard hunting, right? The 240 ft*lb rating is what the 2.3 turbo made in factory trim. However, a few small mods can get you to 300 at the WHEELS.

As I recall, the T45 was rated about 335 ft*lbs, while the T56 was rated 365 or so. There are plenty of cars coming from the factory with more torque than that and a T56 though. Dodge Viper.. 03/04 cobra... ect

These torque ratings are kind of laughable really. Realistically, unless you are launching HARD at the strip on very sticky tires, you probably arn't going to break that 4cyl T5.
