Ok, so i know a world class t5 has a carbon fiber 3rd and 4th blocker ring, but is there anything else that is different? i have been looking for a master rebuild kit for my t5 out of an 87 GT (1352-169). i am assuming mine is not a WC. so, can i take a WC rebuild and use it in a non world class? what about a world class input shaft? is it different?

I always thought that Non WC units were in the vintage that wise Mav suggested, and that they were a lot different internally (bearings, soft parts, lubricatant used, etc etc).

WC applies to many trannies and means almost nothing. Only Cobra trannies got steel retainers - even 94-95 GT's have an alum retainer (along with a longer input shaft).

The WC T5 was beefed up in circa 1990. Previous boxes were WC, but with less torque handling capability.

The Cobra spec box is a step up from a GT WC T5. I think people are confusing boxes and the trim they came in. WC does not mean much, in terms of what one gets. Z spec and cobra spec are a different animal.

The wc started in 91,and it is steel where the throwout bearing slides, the non wc has aluminum and is known for developing a ridge that the throwout bearing can get hung up on.

This is exactly why I have torn my car completely to pieces. Was trying to find the reason for the popping noise on my clutch and increased resistance when the tranny got warm. My TOB was getting stuck up on my very scarred and very worn retainer. But while i got it all out gonna replace everything. Back on subject tho, I was under the impression that the w/c trannys just used stronger internals. Maybe I heard wrong tho.

I'll second that.

All 84+ V8 trans are WC. SOme 4-banger trans are WC, but most are non-WC.

There is a BIG difference internally between a WC and non-WC trans. non-WC use brass blocker rings for 1-5th gear while a WC trans uses 3-peice blockers for 1-4 and a brass 5th gear blocker ring. Also, the entire bearing system is different between the WC and non-WC trans.

Of course the gear ratios are different. There are other misc peices that are different between the two.
