I am thinking it wont last long behind your motor. WC started in 85 and quite simply put was better every year after that. find one from a 92 or 93 if possible.

The only useful identifier for a T5 is an aluminum ID tag. It is attached to one of the transmission tail shaft to case bolts.

The number you posted is probably one of the case part numbers.

See TTC: Product Literature to download a FREE service manual for T5 or Tremec 3550/TKO
You will need the Adobe Acrobat viewer which is also a free download – Adobe - Adobe Reader download - All versions

there was only one change, not one per year.

85-89 units are the same, and the 90+ units got a little stronger

i don't remember which web site it is...but one of the transmission shops that advertises in MMFF and 5.0 has a chart that says what changed when.....anyways i remember that that tag someone mentioned above needs to have 169 somewhere on it to be the 300 ftlbs rated trannies that started getting used in 91 or 92....and yes the 93 cobra and the regular 93 gt & lx models were better also.

the 93 cobra t5's were only better because of the pocket bearing at the input shaft. It's not a night and day difference though. 90-95 v8 t5's were all indentical in power ratings. In fact, the v6 cars possibly up to present day are still the same.

the 83 and 84 t5's are NOT a world class, and are the weakest t5's made.

but ****, it's still a 5 speed

I'd be thinking of leaving it alone and finding a late 89+ T-5

Preferable a 91/92 or later with a synchroed reverse...but that's me

NWC and first generation WC ('85-late '89) have the same torque capacity....265 lbs.-ft.
