I have a 93 GT, I took my car to the Ford Dealer for a electrical problem and turns out it was my fuse link and another wire in the main harness...anyrate since that fix my tach sticks....could someone tell me how to fix this?

Thanks

This sounds really odd, but do you have any sort of hesitation miss or are you running rich? The tach is tied directly into the primary igntion system. Techs use the "tach trick" all the time for simple diagnosis of the ignition system. I'll go into more detail if you seem to have a problem.

didnt notice anyproblems...I did forget to mention that I also redid the ignition switch since everything was pointing to that as the sorce of my loss of power...

You think it was me replacing the switch?

Nope all the time, even driving...when i drove it home it was stuck on 2000 but did jump to 3 for a second and got stuck there. When i shut off the car, I tapped the class and it did jerk its way down to almost 0 RPMS

If it just "sticks" I would guess bad tach. Especially if it drops when you tap on the glass. Now if it stayed at zero and intermittantely jumped I would think otherwise. Not 100% sure though.

My factory tac moves backwards 1\2 of the time (it'll change direction after hard acceleration), instead of spending the money on an expensive fix for the inaccurate factory tac I bought a nice Autometer shift lite tac!

but what gets me it was fine till I had my problem with my fuse link blowing...

Do you think that when i was pushing up on the dash area to unscrew the one side of the iginition switch iit started to come out so the tach isnt making a great connection??

What gets me is that it stuck, even after the vehicle was turned off. And after tapping on it, it did work itself down to zero. If it was an electrical probelm theoratically it would drop to zero with no power. Sounds like a mechanical issue--probably bad tach. Anyone back me up on this?

Mine stuck one time after overrevving the motor. It was stuck at around 6k. Here's what happened: The pedal got hung up on the floor mat and the driver (dear old dad) mashed in the clutch and looked over dumbfounded at me in the passenger seat as the engine began it's assault on the rev limiter. I finally reached over from the passenger seat and killed the ignition. The whole episode only took a couple of seconds, but it seemed to last an eternity. It's like everything was in slow motion.

Anyway, my tach took a vacation for a couple of days after that and then all of a sudden it came back to work again. This was two years ago and no problems since. Oh, and the motor didn't blow. No problems there either. 130k on the ticker now and stronger than ever.
