TAD/TAB Solenoid & Relay Package Price

My thermactor solenoids (a.k.a. AirManagement1 & 2 solenoids) are defective, and need replacing. I came across this sensor package from FRPP for $90 which includes, 2 O2 Sensors, EGR Vacuum Regulator, and from the picture it looks like a MAP sensor. How come it's so cheap when a single Motorcraft O2 Sensor is $75 for my car? Am I missing something here?

No, you have found the right thing. Check out FRPP for more good deals on sensors and wiring for 5.0 Mustangs.

Package contains: These Ford Racing multiport sensor and relay packages are designed to fit the Ford Racing harness M-12071-C-302. They include dual oxygen sensors, EGR solenoid, TAD and TAB solenoids, fuel, air conditioning and EEC power relays. ( sensors will fit 89-93 5.0 Mustangs )

Try www.summitracing.com or www.jegs.com : one of the two companies has an even better price than the one you found.

FRPP is Ford's gift to the budget racer. They cut profits to get the Ford name out in front of the world by promoting racing. They do it in such a way as to shield themselves from lawsuits and liablity. FRPP's low prices are one of those promotion avenues.

Jrichker, I called Ford just now and they said it's for up to 93 Mustang, and should work on my 1987. I than called a local dealer for a price, and the parts guy said he believed the pre 89 and post 89 sensors had backwards compatibility, but that he would call back to find out for sure. You think the oxygen sensors are incompatible? Again, the car has been converted to MAF.

Cheers for the help as usual mate

Want to find out if the O2 sensors are the same between 87 & 89-93? Check one of the online auto parts houses (autozone.com, advanceautoparts.com, or my favorite, rockauto.com) to see if the different years use the same O2 sensor part number.

Well see that's where it get a little hard to figure out.

87 Mustang lists the Motorcraft O2 as a DY605
89 Mustang = DY605
90 Mustang = DY606
92, 93 Mustang = DY605 or DY606 (both lissted)
The tip (bung side) appears to be a little different between the two from the pictures. But if the correct ones are shown on the FRPP picutre they look to be the DY605.

However, I know the Bosch O2 Sensor are fairly similar in design and they are listed as #13942 from 86-93.

I think I'll take a trip down to the dealer and see if they can guarantee they will work or not.

Cheers...

I have not verified it myself but I recall reading in another thread that the differences between the 02 sensors mentioned above was the length of the wires from the sensor to the harness plug.

Well, I got to the dealership and it was a different guy at the counter (should have phoned first :bang: ). The guy had a clueless look when I started describing this package, he had never heard of, and tried to tell me my car had 4 O2 Sensors not just the 2 in the kit.

Hmm, I read elsewhere that the LH and RH sensor wiring are a different length? If they are, that would explain the two part #s, and I'd be more confident this package would work.

Update; kit came in, wrong tad/tab solenoids

I guess the TAD/TAB Solenoids are different between 87/88 Speed Density and 89-93 MAF on the Mustang. The ones in the kit are the same as the ones in this wiring schematic, the AM1 and AM2 solenoids.

This is what I have on my car in the same area (behind passenger strut tower), and believe they are the TAD/TAB Solenoids.

The wires going to these are the same color as the diagram except the White/Red on the AM1/TAB solenoid is Yellow/Red on my car. Could anyone confirm this? Online catalogues only list it under the EGR Vacuum Solenoid along with the actual EGR Vacuum Solenoid.

I know I could have cut and spliced the wires from the 89up solenoids onto the female ends of what's there. I will do that for parts that are NLA, but will continue to buy the correct fitment parts for what is still available. Ordering the other setup wasn't that expensive, and I can still sell the other ones to someone.
