im thinking about doing a change in my exhaust. i have flowmasters 40 series 2 chamber w/ h-pipe. i want to find out how it would sound if i take off my tailpipes and put in dumps tips. i want that deep"lopey cam" at idle.

Only thing I can say is that dumps on my previous 91 gt was not as loud as having tail pipes.

I kind of don't like the look of lx's without tail pipes so I didn't go the dump route on my latest fox and like it more

Dumps will create a lot of drone in the car with your flows. I bought my car with an off road h-pipe and flowmaster 40's with dumps. I loved it at first, cause I had been mustangless for a couple years, but after about 6 months, it got kinda old. When you have to talk loudly to your passenger going down the interstate, it gets annoying. Then again, mine is my DD, so maybe it wouldnt be so bad if I didnt drive it everyday. I bought some flowmaster tips, but then didnt like the look of them. I cut them off after the axle, so they dump right infront of the gas tank (behind the rear wheels). That was the perfect alternative for me. Its loud enough to still hear it good in the car, but doesnt have the drone from when it dumps in front of the rear axle. Thats just my $.02

i got stinger dumps right now cuz im too cheap to finish them coming out the side, but they dont do a 90 degree bend like a normal dump does... its more or less about a 45 degree bend... it sort of just points towards the rear of the vehicle... still a little drone @ low RPMs, but other than that it sounds pretty good... especially with teh windows up, no drone LOL

Do you have a vid of the car since you had the exhaust done? Im curious to hear the difference between the borlas and the flows with dumps. Ive been scoping out the internet for some borlas, but since Ive already had the flows and dumps I would like to compare. Sorry to the OP for hijacking.

Here's a comparison for you. My brother's '94 is completely stock except for O/R prochamber, flows, and dumps. My car is in my sig....Basically 418w 449rwhp, 1 7/8" LT's, 3" O/R X-pipe, straight through mufflers, and 3" tail pipes. His car is much louder at lower rpms because the whole car resonates. It's one of those sounds that you might think is kinda cool for a while, then you start to hate it.

dumps are for race cars. dumps on a street car is pretty pointless if you ask me. and you will not get that racey lope idle from dumps if that is what you were going for. with dumps you can expect it to be unpleasent inside the car, annoying and you will probably smell of fumes when u get out. save the dumps for the cammed up race cars dude.

here the thing. i like the sound the dumps and i believe that it improves exhaust flow exiting out compared to tailpipes in which are arched over the axle. for DD, its not worth it due to the drone from the inside. my uncle on his 93 gt has dumps. its sounds sick especially with the E cam. his car is used for the track, not DD. for DD, tailpipes

Apparently my ex-husband made that mistake.

Dumps are fantastic. I can have my exhaust off the car from the headers back in 6 minutes. I don't have a drowning problem, but I think that's mainly because I run an Ultraflow muffler instead of Flowbastards. I out grew the noise and drown of the Flowbastards years ago. The key to getting rid of the drown is to spend a little extra money on better mufflers.
