Hey everyone,

tried to look online for some pic but cant find anything to compare. doing AI chat and it says this is a normal factory notch, but I dont think so.
My tail shaft seal has had a slow leak for a long time now. I decided it was time to change the seal and the bushing inside. once I removed the seal, I see this.
Is that flat spot suppose to be there on the right?

I can tell you the one in my coupe never looked like that. Changing the tail housing is not that hard and you can use one off a 4 cylinder car. Copy of the service manual is here:

That’s not supposed to be there. My guess is that trans was dropped/hit on that corner.

Maybe you can work it back into shape with the right tool/technique, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it cracks during that process and leaks.
